Ever since the whole retreat ended, I began to have a greater interest in the scriptures and I have this love of praying that I’ve never had before. I also have that desire to go tot he adoration chapel more often and I want to go to church more. So yeah, I believe my faith has increased.
Also, while I was resting in the spirit, I felt internal peace and the presence of God. I can’t really describe the experience in words but I know that it was divine. I’m 16 and there were even people as young as 12 or 13 being slain in the spirit.
My sister was also healed at this retreat. For a couple of weeks she had a severe leg pain and the doctor said that it was caused by a torn muscle, but it never got better. There were many healing prayers at the retreat and it really worked because by the end of the retreat, my sister did not feel any pain on the leg.

As different as my only real charismatic experience is from daily Mass, so different is the idea of “contemplative prayer” and all the apophatic tradition that goes along with it, the Cloud of the Unknowing, etc.

Curious whether you’ve heard of any of that? This isn’t about the charismatic experience; just another completely difference experience I’ve had with the Church outside Mass, and I know a lot of others who post here also have had.

May many blessings come your way. When I was involved with the Charismatics (there were scheduled days of recollection and a yearly retreat) a new disposition was often experienced - a sort of radical transformation and renewal of heart that made some more tender toward others; less likely to have antagonism or irritability. And a new conviction to attend daily Mass was common and yearning for prayer such as you describe. There was also sometimes a manifest display of an increase in the gifts of the Spirit such as right judgment, joy and inner peace. And of course, discernment which is truly needed when embarking on a new journey lest we be led astray. Truly, it was the beginning of healing, both spiritual and physical, and a new life for some as the gifts seem to grow with grace. God be with you.

Are your parents Catholic?
What do they think about this experience or your Parish priest?

My parents are catholic and they believe what happened was divine. I know for certain it was…I can’t really explain the experience through words. No one really can, and no one can know what it is without experiencing this. However, I didn’t get the chance to talk to my parish priest about it though, and I plan to soon. 🙂

All the best:) Keep updating if you get a chance.

Rebelling?

I pray that this “rebellion” and whatever it involves, will ultimately guide you to places where your faith-vision becomes ever clearer.

It is like that my friend 🙂 You dont have to explain it…spiritual experiences are more powerful than any human effort/personal attainment of happiness (of course this is based on my experience) However to know if the spiritual experience is from God or the devil is quite subtle. According to St. Ignatius of Loyola—if the experience moves you closer to God, moves you further to love others, moves you to do greater things for others–it’s unquestionable that is from God. However, if it is making you more selfish in the long run (spiritual addictions etc), making you more attached unnecessarily, more likely it’s from the devil…

I mean, see the fruit of the experience. You will know them by their fruits-Mt. 7:16

and welcome to the club my friend:) in the long run and as you go further in the christian life…be careful to note the fruits of your spiritual experiences.I’ve known christians with very good spiritual experiences from retreat. They’ve been moved and inspired for some time but in the end…goes back to the egypt where they’ve been imprisoned. It is precisely because they forgot everything and do not really practice prayer and love. It is a narrow road, but Jesus will be with you if you persevere as well.🙂

Very true!

I know this is an experience from God, because ever since that whole retreat/experience, I’ve desired to be closer to the Lord. I’m now really interested in the lives of saints and I have the love of prayer. I now yearn to put the Lord as the first thing in my life and not get lured by worldly pleasures, which has happened to me in the past. I wish to praise and thank God for everything and trust in Jesus always. I have also talked with my parish priest and he said that sometimes the Holy Spirit wants to make itself known to others and this is one way of doing so.

Congratulations. Please do persevere:D the enemy of the soul will do everything to bring you back to him…but if you persevere, despite the hardships, He will be with you and you’ll come closer to Him like you’ve never had before. I recommend greatly the sacraments.😃

For myself, St John of the Cross’ Spiritual Canticle, expresses the journey of the soul who has experienced divine love.

Bride
  1. Where have you hidden,
    Beloved, and left me moaning?
    You fled like the stag
    after wounding me;
    I went out calling you, but you were gone.
  2. Shepherds, you who go
    up through the sheepfolds to the hill,
    if by chance you see
    him I love most,
    tell him I am sick, I suffer, and I die.
  3. Seeking my Love
    I will head for the mountains and for watersides,
    I will not gather flowers,
    nor fear wild beasts;
    I will go beyond strong men and frontiers.
more…

The soul touched by God’s love, now hungers for more and seeks him for who he is. Nothing will satisfy the soul other than God himself. No preacher, books or discursive prayers can satisfy the soul wounded by divine love.

Being slain in the Spirit is the touch of divine love which will touch the soul in a profound way, and that soul will forever seek the beloved, Jesus Christ, until divine union, or the spiritual marriage as St. John terms it, is consummated.
