I shoveled my neighbors sidewalk on Sunday - we got pounded with snow. My intention was to give him a break on his day off, so he could spend more time with his family. I had to shovel my sidewalk to keep pedestrians from needing to walk in the street.

Let me tell you, it was definately work! A good work, but work none the less. I feel that if I didn’t shovel, I would’ve missed an opportunity to do that good work.

Did I fail to keep the Sabbath holy?

Charitable work is allowed on Sunday, and what you did was an act of charity.

Did you ask him to pay you for the work that you did? No? Then you have kept the Sabbath holy by helping your neighbour.

We are not governed by man made second generation rules with regards to the Sabbath

Oh, it didn’t interfere with church.

This other post in another forum had me questioning if I really understood of servile work. I did.

And no, I will not be shoveling anyone else’s walk…unless you pay me…and it’s Saturday…hehe.

erm… the Sabbath is Saturday, always was and always will be, but we are no longer bound to the Old Covenant. The Sabbath of the Old Covenant was a shadow pointing forward to the Sabbath on which God finally did rest, when He lay in the tomb after being crucified on Good Friday. The Church, guided by the Holy Spirit, primarily worships on Sunday which is the eighth day. The eighth day is a new day which breaks free from the endless cycle of seven days. It is an eternal day for there is no night following. It is the new creation.
We primarily worship on this day because we look forward to the second coming of our Lord and our own resurrection when we too will enter glory. The Sabbath looked forward to the purpose of Christ’s first coming, to defeat death by His own death. Sunday, the Lord’s day, looks forward to Christ’s second coming.

The Sabbath day never got changed. It was simply fulfilled.

Since maize is a new world crop, the disciples were not plucking corn as most of us know it. My NRSV translates it as “heads of grain.” (Matthew 12:1) Doesn’t sound very tasty to me.

Slight hijack here: I also notice in 12:4 that David is reported as eating the “bread of the Presence.” Is this bread a precursor to the Eucharist, or a precursor to the bread at the end of some Byzantine divine liturgies?

At my church, Ihave shoveled snow fromthe sidewalks so everyone coming in won’t slip and fall.
Dong Good works on Sunday IS NOT work for which you get paid (money) for.
BUT YOU SIS store up a few $$$ in Heaven for your good deed.

IF we all became worried about working on Sunday, we’d ALL end up staying in bed all day and MISS the Holy Eucharist and the Mass which we are all called to be at, at the first place!
