I think my guardian angel is angry with me

Basically, I have been feeling that because of my sinfulness, my guardian angel feels very let down, and almost ashamed of me, if he isn’t already.

I think that he is also quite angry at me, and pities me because of what I have done, and what I have failed to do. I love him so much, but as has been taught, how can we love that which we betray?

He will still grant my requests, I think, but only because it is what he has been commanded to do, rather than it being something he wants to do.

The bottom line is that I just feel as though I have been using him as a tool, rather than treating him like he is - my faithful companion. I have recently been adverse to prayers of petition, because I don’t like calling on them to do whatever I ask them to - to wait on me like some sort of servant/slave.

Can they get angry at me, or am I just overreacting because I felt as though I have screwed up again?

I think your last sentence hit the nail on the head.

Angels don’t get angry. They do God’s will, and it is God’s will that you be saved. Angels can inspire us to do good, but then it is up to us to follow through.

Prayers of petition are fine if we leave the answering of them up to God’s will. He knows what is best for us.

And, there are other ways to pray besides petitioning. We need to worship and adore the Lord because of who He is. We need to have sorrow of offending God, and we need to be thankful to Him for all his grace and mercy.

I suppose. But sometimes I feel as though I am taking advantage of the situation, where the process of repentence, grace and sin are becoming machine-like, and a feeling of worthlessness, where I am not worthy of such graces and a guardian angel because of my sinful nature and while I say I love you and make prayers of faith, hope and love, and when it comes to prayers of petition, I feel uncomfortable in asking for things.

Go to confession and tell the priest how you feel. Ask for his advice.

Try asking some of this over at Ask an Apologist - also try searching for threads on prayer etc.

Your Angel isn’t judging you. That’s not an Angel’s task, but to love and worship God and to lead you to the same. The Angels went through their ‘time’ of testing, so maybe your Angel knows something about it not being easy. Your Angel was one of the two-thirds who with St Michael, remained faithful to God. God and your Angel don’t expect perfection of us so much as that we keep sincerely trying to live Love for God and others (and for our true selves enough to live according to love!)

Bless you, Trishie
Ha! but it doesn’t mean I haven’t felt the same as you, or I’d not have written one such time, the following!

Guardian Angel
My Angel, please obtain love and discernment for me, so that I am blessing to others. You know my failures to love others and to witness God’s love. You know everyone that I have injured by my selfishness and frailties and lack of wisdom.

My Angel, if my attitudes, actions, words, or lack of response, have left injuries in others’ lives, please beg pardon of their spirits for me. Go before God to plead for great healing, gifts and happiness for each of them.

My dear Angel, please forgive me all ‘sorrow’ that I may have brought you in your observation of divine mercy neglected. Thank you for your faithfulness, and loving care.

Please lead me into loveliness of soul. Help me to love God wholly. Obtain of God that I delight you with glorious fulfilment of His highest hopes for me.

Remember that devotion is not about feelings. We are all unworthy, but God is infinitely good. Acts of love and commitment are not always accompanied by feelings. There is merit in acting on faith and not depending on our feelings. That is a way the Lord uses to help us grow spiritually.

Sure they can get angry at us, but it is not the same as we humans get angry. yes, i think you are overracting because you think you’ve screwed up. Don’t give up on prayers of petition- Christ admonishes his disciples for asking too little in the scriptures! your angel sees you as you are- and infant compared to himself. just like we sometimes get frustrated at infants but never hate them, so an angel can be towards you. they do not have human feelings, though. they are different entities all together, but they are nonetheless Godlike thanks to grace. think of your angel as a good and wise and string and loyal friend. they reflect the divinity of God in thier thoughts and actions. they act divinely. if your angel is frustrated with you, it only makes him try harder- he will not give up.

before confession, go before the Sacrament and pray to christ and Mary to help you make a good confession. try to feel real sorrow for your sins. think about your actions and the consequences. think about how you’ve failed God. then go to confession. when in confession, do not see the priest, but rather see Christ- by this i mean that you ought to realize that it is Christ Himself hearing your confession and forgiving your sins- the priest is an instrument God chose to ork through- and so see Christ in the cofessional and confess to Him, acting as if the priest is Christ Himself because this is the spiritaul reality. then, go and do your penance. LET GO OF YOUR SINS- it sounds to me like you cling too tightly to your shortcomings. if God has forgiven you, who are you to be so arrogant to not forgive yourself? If God HImself does not remember your sins, then who are you to tell Him what is true? this is a false humility. you should be aware of your trouble areas as a Christian and a son of God, but you should also reflect on the greatness of a God who can forgive- if you wish to be like your God, then you must also forgive like your God- even yourself. without trusting in the goodness of God this way, you are a sitting duck for developing scruples. you will never be worthy of the goodness of God, you will never in this earthly life love Him as He deserves- but this is not what He has asked of us. He asked us to remain faithful and to love him with everything we’ve got, no matter how limited or faulted it is. like a child who makes his father a scribbled drawing for father’s day, God accepts the little messes that we are able to give Him- and that is why He is great and good.

how can we love that which we betray?
By asking forgiveness of Our Lord, by seeking the Sacrament of Reconciliation, amending our lives and by prayer.

Archus… please remember this. Judas Iscariot betrayed Our Lord… and did not believe that he could be forgiven. As a result, his sin increased, because he despaired and hung himself.

St. Peter also betrayed Our Lord… 3 times, in denying that he knew Him. St. Peter, however… believed that Our Lord forgave him. St. Peter became our first Pope… and Prince of the Apostles.

I think that your Guardian Angel is probably reaching out to you, in prayer. And his prayer, is having an effect on you. He is praying for you… because that is what they do for us. He also loves you and is one of your closest friends and confidants. Ask him for his continued prayer, guidance and protection. He will do whatever he is permitted to do… by God’s Will. (And please remember… we are taught that it is God’s Will that all men are saved).

Hope this helps. God bless. :angel1:
