Oh hey, I’m new (I had an account a while back but I wanted a new one), and I need someone to tell me if I’m being over-scrupulous or just sensible. I’m terrible about going to confession. I’m trying to get out there in the next week, but as I self-examine I’m not sure if my last confession was valid.
- I’m not entirely sure I intended to avoid sinning, seeing as I went into it with an attitude of “we’ll see what happens next time I’m encountered with Sin X”, and I don’t remember if I was lying to myself about it or not. The first time I had an opportunity to commit Sin X, I did it straightaway.
- The time before that I had gone to confession for a particular sin, the priest reacted in a way that it seemed like he thought I was confessing to something worse than I was, and he seemed too
for me to explain it properly. Trying to avoid that this time around, I was trying to figure out a way to confess particular sins that had Element Y that would make them worse as part of them, but weren’t done for the sake of Element Y (for instance, in the case of a particular besetting sin, spreading a rumor that I didn’t intend to actually harm someone else’s life, even if it did, just other people’s opinions of them). I don’t remember if I was trying to minimize it or not.
