When the subject of Jesus’ crucifixion comes up, and fingers point towards the High Priesthood, who hasn’t heard someone say “Well, Pilate killed Jesus”, or “I though the Romans had something to do with it.”

Now, if someone were to respond with something like “If the Romans killed Jesus, then why did the Jews kill Stephen in A.D. 36, and then kill Jesus’ brother James the Just in A.D. 62?” would that be unchristian-like? Or should the other cheek be turned?

I may be wrong, but I don’t believe “turn the other cheek” means never debating and being a yes-man to other people’s opinion. You certainly wouldn’t simply agree with the people who believe Jesus is just a representation of the Egyptian god Horus now would you?

In any case, It is both the High Priests and the Roman’s blame for Christ’s death. Rome feared a riot more than they feared killing an innocent man, but I don’t think they feared Jesus’ movement all that much, in fact they probably prefered it over other Jewish sects since Jesus had the “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and God what belongs to God” ideology. Not to mention the Centurion who came to Jesus for help didn’t seem all that concerned about their growing numbers.

We all killed Jesus. Every time we sin, we help hammer a nail into his hand or foot. Every time we sin, we stand with the crowd and yell, “Crucify him!”
