Hi everyone,
I’m new here and I’m not entirely sure where to begin…please, bare with me. My mother is Catholic, however I am not. I was never baptized. My father passed away when I was very young. He did not identify with a specific religion, but was very spiritual. My entire life I’ve felt a huge connection to God and have always been interested in learning more. I’ve never consistently attended a specific church before, but my mother has always shared her love of faith with me which has always inspired me in many ways. I’m now in my mid-twenties and for the past 7 years I’ve been my mothers full-time caregiver. She’s been battling breast cancer and has other health complications as well. I also manage and run her business, as she’s unable to work independently - and I’m also working towards getting my degree. I’ve wanted to join a church for a while now, as I feel like I would greatly benefit in more than one way…however, I’m not sure how to and have a fear of being rejected because I don’t have as much time as I’d like to attend a lot of in person teachings. However I’ve been watching RCIA teachings on YouTube in my free time, which I’ve loved and have been very insightful…In addition to all of the above, I was just asked by relative if I would be the Godmother to her child. I want nothing more to be the Godmother to her child, but I know I cannot in my current standing. Her child is being baptized in 6 months, and I would love to accept this duty but I have a lot of fear that this may not be possible… I’m not sure what to do, which is why I decided to reach out here with hope someone might be able to provide me with some advice. Any positive (name removed by moderator)ut would be so greatly appreciated and if you read my post, I thank you for your time.

Hi, ConvertCath. Welcome to Catholic Answers Forums!

Try talking to a priest at your local parish to see if you can arrange something privately if you cannot attend RCIA.

Exactly. Call the parish office and make an appointment to speak to a priest about your desire to become Catholic and your situation.

In the meantime, I hope you are able to attend mass and experience the beauty of mass.

I am happy for your journey and hope you will return to CAF with any questions you have. Also, make use of the search feature to research any topics that interest you.

Welcome! We are glad you are here!

Welcome ConvertCath!

You can become Catholic. Many people here are converts.

It seems you have a lot on your plate right now with having to care for and help your mother. Please don’t let the process of becoming Catholic overwhelm you. Whether we have been baptized or not, we are all somewhere on our Faith journey and we welcome as you join us.

Speak to your pastor --or some other priest or deacon–after Mass some Sunday and he can help you figure out what is the best next step for YOU.

Please don’t be afraid of being afraid.

Hello & welcome 🙂 I would definitely recommend joining Mass. it’s so beautiful, something I look forward to every week.

I too am new, I’m actually starting RCIA in about half an hour. I can’t wait.
