I went to the first website that google suggested to me, https://www.catholiccompany.com/

There’s so many different ones though! Most of them have saint names or such and i’m so unfamiliar with most of them. I don’t know what to get. There’s also a rosary bracelet, too. I worry i won’t have the attention span for a rosary so should i buy a rosary braclet, too? I worry, perhaps unnecessarily, that God would find it rude or offensive if i can’t pay attention during prayer…

Any advice? I also intend to get a special box to put it on, a folder listing all the prayers and how to pray them, and a book that sounded good called The Secret of the Rosary by St. Louis de Montfort.

All great questions and I’m very happy you are exploring Catholicism. I am an adult convert so I know exactly how you’re feeling.

My advice would be to start simple. Pick a nice one with 59 beads and a cross and PRACTICE! After about a year or so of praying the rosary you’ll be a pro!

I like praying the rosary while I’m walking while listening to Gregorian chant but there’s no right or wrong way to do it. That is part of what it makes it such a wonderful experience.

Just get a simple but sturdy one. You want the whole Rosary, not a bracelet (you can add that later).
Note also that there are Youtubes that pray the Rosary and you can follow along with them.
Do you have a nearby Catholic church? Have you started to attend/enrolled in RCIA? I hope you will!

That’s a great idea! Music helps me focus in general. What’s a gregorian chant?

And thank you so much for the help!! I appreciate it so much. I’m glad to know others have been where i am.

If you put your Rosary in a box you won’t pray it as often as if you have it on your person - either in a pouch or just in your pocket.

An Irish singer named Dana has a wonderful CD where she prays the Rosary with her brother, who is a priest. It’s a great way to get into the rhythm of praying the Rosary.

Don’t overthink it. Just buy one that appeals to you, and you can afford.

No. My mom took me to a southern baptist church going up, but we stopped going for a while and then began attending ‘non-denominational’ churches that at least to me still had strong baptist leanings. I don’t think she’d be open to taking me to a Mass, and i’d be super nervous and anxious anyways. We haven’t gone to church in years; initially it was because my mom was unwell and couldn’t take us. I guess its just habit, now. My mom and I just try to have strong spiritual lives without going to church.

Good point. I know with me, if its out of sight its out of mind. Would it be an okay thing to put it in, say, a little dish on the dresser? Or to hang it up on a pin on my bulletin board with my necklaces? Or i suppose i could get one of those Mary statue rosary holders but idk how to hang it on the statue. It wasn’t in the picture lol

Yeah, who knows? I may or may not have dropped a few lines a few days ago that i hope she’ll get curious about and look into.

She’s gonna see your Rosary and Mary statue…dead give away 😄 )

Okay, thanks! I think that’s what i’ll probably end up doing. Plain is best with me, lest i get materialistic and buy more than i need or will ever use.

No prob! We’re always here for you if you have questions about your faith journey!

Gregorian chant is a style of liturgical music named after Pope Saint Gregory I. It is very beautiful in my opinion. If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, download the Amazon Music app and search for “Gregorian chant.” There are several albums there to choose from that you can listen to while you pray.

Pope Saint Gregory I, pray for us!!!

I hear you. I’m always seeing beautiful rosaries advertised and wanting them. But I stick with my plain wood bead rosary. It suits me better than fancy.

Too true. Idk tho she only goes in my room like a few nights a week to say goodnight. And i don’t know if i’ll get the statue tbh. I might just pin it up or use a dish its much cheaper.

Catholic bookstores around here usually have lots of rosaries to choose from. It’s nice to see them in person, because I think it’s best if you like how yours feels.

Here’s mine. It’s wood beads and cord. I have had it for close to two years, it lives in my pockets, I use it daily, and it’s still in good condition.

Also, I’m a prospective convert from Protestantism, I work for a Protestant church, and as this rosary is quite simple it rarely draws negative comments.

The key is proximity. Hanging it up in the area where you pray is fine, but I prefer to keep one in my pocket at all times. I also have one in my car where I can reach it. Having more than one Rosary is not a bad idea either - I have a couple of nice Rosaries in pouches, and a couple made with cord that are pretty much indestructible that I carry with me. I also have an all metal replica of a WWI military issue Rosary that is my “stuck on a desert island” Rosary!

I love your rosary, its beauty in simplicity i think. I think i’ll probably go for something similar.
