I want to fast for a friend, what are the rules?

Yes, and anything else in the book as well.

All the specific grants fall under the general grant types, except that they are only partial indulgences. Partial indulgences offer more satisfaction, added by the Church, to whatever is had by the indulgenced act itself.

Not all the specific grants are partials. There are many different plenaries throughout the book in the specific grants. Nor do they all necessarily fall under a general grant, unless you wanted to say that everything we do is giving open witness. I seem to recall we have had this discussion before.

However, since this discussion doesn’t relate to what the OP is doing as he’s fasting for a living person and is not doing indulgence practice, I will leave it at that so as not to go off topic or cause him confusion.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday for sure - and I mean a real fast, no eating of anything for a solid 24 hours. Every Friday during lent is also a day of fasting, with no eating of any meat. That’s how I do it.

Oh I understand. Thank you. Quick update, I fasted and prayed all day and heard good news from my friend. The doctor says he is now recovering and he will be alright. It was a dangerous situation with his heart. But he is now ok. (Did not expect him to get better so soon.) thank you all for your help!

Oh ok, I understand thank you. I have not heard of this before. I have only heard of fasting for the living. I at an organization from our catholic church (dont want to be too specific) so I am around nuns and priests all the time and they fast all the time for people. I could have asked them but I am to embarrassed to.

Oh ok I understand now. I have never heard of anyone fasting for the dead before. For what reasons -If I may ask- would you do so?

Prayers for the faithfully departed (those that died justified) are that they be free from attachment to all sin and be released to heaven.
