I’m in the US and have planned to start RCIA at my local parish for months now and have eagerly awaited this September. I signed up and everything, but now all of a sudden I have to leave to another state to help nurse a family member after a surgery. It might be a month until I am able to return, after RCIA has already begun.

Will I be able to continue missing the first few sessions? Or will I have to wait until next year and try again? Or could I attend another RCIA program in the state I’m going to temporarily? Would that be sufficient?

I really don’t want to miss this. I hope the program is flexible.
Thank you for your time.

Indeed, these kinds of things come up in RCIA. Talk with your director to see what options you might have.

These are all questions for your local RCIA coordinator and priest. These are local decisions but in my experience most are flexible.

As other said, talk to your RCIA director in regards to this and also see if it would be beneficial to sit in the RCIA meetings at a parish close to where you’ll be living for about a month while you assist your family member.

I split my RCIA between my parish in Pennsylvania and a parish near our winter home in Florida. They want to help you and will find a way to make it work for you.

Nothing to add to what has already been said regarding RCIA, but I just wanted to welcome you to CAF and let you know that I’m praying for you and your family member. :pray:t3: God bless!

Talk to your pastor, you could likely attend sessions at the distant parish, it is wonderful to realize the universality of our Church. Remember, RCIA prep is not a series of hoops to jump through, there is not a punishment for having a life.

Thank you all for the replies.

I talked to the program director and she said Its no problem and I can be caught up after I return. What a relief! I’m a newbie to all this, so I guess I worried myself over nothing. Thanks again to everyone.
