Thank you! You took the words right out of my mouth. Esp. the more I studied actual historic paganism… How quickly the stuff I had believed about the “origins of religion” dissolved in the clear water of facts.
Also, I had a great aunt who was a Catholic convert…I think that she was praying for me!

I felt that too, and when I went to Mass with a friend and watched everyone go up to the front I felt it so hard it ached.
That and answers I got here and a huge feeling of “it’s about time I went home” are a lot of what made my mind up. And a wonderful RCIA class, way more helpful than some I’ve read about here.

strayed away from all religion

Married a muslim and accepted islam

strayed from islam, found catholicism

I love the catholic faith, I have reservations about the institution.

I consider myself a non-institutional catholic.

When some “estimate”, which is a guess at some truth, is seen as “not true but close” (however “close” is defined), then the “thing to do” to seem to get closer to the truth is to invent some “extenuating circumstance”, some “adjustment”, to move the estimate toward the “truth” sought.

Those who are COMMITTED to NEVER reaching the REAL truth, but only their own self-serving “close-to-truth” are perfectly free to selectively choose a “cloud” of approximations (estimates) which SEEM to center around their (wanted) “truth”.

Now, people notice that the “cloud” doesn’t REALLY describe a truth per se, only a relative “consensus”, and will “complain” at this fact to the one doing the approximating.

This “obliges” the approximator to “lie yet again” and find some “extenuating circumstance” that satisfies the “complainer”, at least for a time.

This process of creating infinitudes, constant and unending “adjustments” to “truth”, is the necessary tactic of the deceiver and his minions.

Thus, lies create more lies, so as to disguise the deception taking place. Whenever you see a “relativistic” explanation of faith/morals/ethics or any non-terminal (endless/infinite) process to explain some phenomenon, you’re seeing satan at work trying to justify his handiwork as “only reasonable and perfectly acceptable for the consumption of mere mortals”.

A what? 🙂

Jesus came to interact with sinners. There’s quite a bit of that intersaction in His Church, but the Church herself is immune from any long lasting harm from said sinners.

Trust the dogmas as absolute truth, and follow the disciplines for “etiquette” reasons if nothing else, and you’ll be just like the rest of us “institutional Catholics”, which is the only REAL meaning of Catholic that exists.

( …elsewise, you’re a protestant calling himself a Catholic, at best. )

I understand that the Real Presence resides in the Eucharist. When I was a catholic I spent time in the presence and lately I’ve attended mass but no real difference there. Is there something to it?

I was raised Protestant (unchurched) My Momma was raised church of God & Daddy was raised Baptist . I was raised with a mix of both beliefs. (Momma always read the Bible to me very night when I was little)

The first church service I ever attended was the Catholic Mass. I fell in love with Catholicism instantly I’ve been Roman Catholic since I was 14. When I was 16 I started going with my boyfriend (now husband) to a Non denominational church for a few years. I never really felt at home in a protestant church. My husband & I came back to the Catholic Church 2 years ago. I’m really glad we did I really missed it, so did he.

No I have always been Christian either Protestant or Catholic

The Catholic belief of the Real Presence is what I truly missed the most. I love this belief its the best part of being Catholic.

I think all you need to do is find a Church that is open… and most Churches in the city are open in he day-time…

When I returned to the Sacraments on Divine Mercy Sunday…I was openly sobbing (which is out of character for me…I’m a stiff upper lipped stoic type).

your sobbing may be explained, at least in part… by the fact that it was Divine Mercy Sunday… st. Faustina, who, as you probably know, helped get that started… asked the Lord if she could help people (convert, etc.) even when she got to Heaven…
after I received Communion, I did some more sobbing making everbody around me uncomfortable and I didn’t want to leave the church after mass.

That is so beautiful to me… someone who gets so into Jesus… i can understand people feeling a little uncomfortable with the sobbing… but on th other hand, i think society is a little too focused on always hiding one’s true feelings… that is not always healthy, to say the least.
I could write several pages on the graces and healing the Lord has given me over the last two years through the Eucharist. But, I actually need to start getting ready to go to confession and evening mass. I try to go to morning mass every day but I surrendered to " acedia" and went back to sleep this morning!

If you mean I ever left Christ and His Church, no. If you mean I ever turned my back on God, yes - every time I’ve committed a sin, which I regret and despise. Please pray for me.

Jesus is in the Eucharist. Even though all scientific instruments and measurements and methods find no life in the Body and Blood of Christ, in Him is life in abundance. He is the life itself.
