Hi- I’m a 29 year old male. I love Jesus and take seriously His call to follow Him. Not just to go to Church each day, but to really follow, to become a saint, to glorify Him in my daily actions and prayers. Sometimes easier said than done, as being a 29 year old male there are lots of distractions!! I think lately God has put it in me to write a book. I have sruggled in the past with pornography (and heck, it’s still a struggle even with God’s graces) and I see SO many young men (and women) in the Church that struggle with pornography that it’s truly the pink elephant in the room. I think God wants me to write about my story so that it encourages others to stop this addictive habit. I am looking for any ideas or suggestions. Any encouragement would help. I don’t want to write any book if it’s not truly God’s will. Thanks and have a joyful day!

Quotation at bottom of yr page seems to answer yr question. People who write books usually know what they are going to write…and simply write. Maybe you should keep a journal for a year ( or two) to see if you really have anything to say. Good luck on yr journey.

  1. Don’t think about originality. The desire to be original is rooted in pride. Just write your story and whatever you think will be awesome and inspiring. A good story, told a thousand times, is still worth being told another thousand times.
  2. Give yourself lots of time
  3. Keep your expectations low.
🙂

Keeping a journal is a good idea for starters. Publishing books is a lot of work, and selling them is even harder.

I used to be editor and publisher of Magnificat Press until it went broke. 😦

That was 22 years ago.

With the kind of book you have in mind, it would be pretty hard, I think, to find the buyers.

You could look at Internet publishing as an alternative: that is, present what you have to say via a website or blog, where you don’t have to find buyers, just present your information to help people, which I can see is (and ought to be) your main point. With web optimization tools such as keywords, content description, and the other metadata, you can make your site easy to find.

God be with you!

As a professional in book publishing, I can pass on the following:
  1. A good, easy title, like “How To Deal with Porn Addiction.” “Help to Stop Porn Addiction.” Yes, it is a common struggle but if you can tell your story and present insights and strategies, helping just one person who’s thinking: “How do I stop? Is it only me? If someone could just guide me.” I struggle with this as well. It’s not easy. But if you help even one person reduce their use of porn, it will be a great help.
  2. Stay positive in your writing. Conveying a sense of hope is important. People need to hear about your struggle, yes, but be brief. The part they really want to read is the point where you began the process of breaking away and they want the details.
  3. Make a list of the things you want to address. Sure, you can present your story which will inspire, but I suggest a Summary in the back that lists the key points and the key steps you took so people can just get that summary into their heads and refer to it.
  4. Don’t worry about writing a perfect book, just start writing. Don’t stress about how many pages you can do a day. Beginning writers usually write a few pages a day.
  5. When you’re done, have somebody read the book and get their opinion. It should be a friend you can trust.
  6. Finally, look it over for spelling errors, or if you know someone, ask them to do it.
Feel free to use the titles I suggested and to ignore parts of my advice if you feel they don’t apply or sound right to you. Since God is calling you - ask for His help.

Hope this helps.

BE CARFEFUL HERE!

I suggest you speak to your pastor and GIVE Him RIGHT of review and rejection.

Your topic is good BUT because it’s highly explosive GREAT care must be taken with its content.

For example: No, None, Zip, Zerro specifics should be given as to the SPECIFICS of what you viewd, where you foind or obtained it. If from the internet NO specific info is to be shared.

It’s a great idea an a powerful need. But ONLY if guided by a priest IMO.

I’ll pray for you.
