I would never guess. these are Christmas Cards

Seems like the last few years we have been getting very odd Christmas cards–photo cards of vacations, kids doing sports, the circus etc. Printed onto the card. I love getting the cards but feel the message of Christmas is lost. Then the envelopes have printed labels and the insides are printed too. I am all for a famiy pic by the tree etc. But these are so off.

Have you all gotten cards like this? Am I being too picky about this? The strangest card -I got so far was a friend’s child on vacation with an iguana on his arm.

Don’t get me wrong I feel blessed to get these cards, but what are people thinking?
 
I don’t know, maybe the sender prefers to share family memories than to buy canned images of commercial holiday culture?

If I can fix my printer in time, I will probably send photos from Bethlehem as greeting covers to those on my list.

That’s what I’d say.
 
It’s even becoming difficult to find Christmas that are related to Christmas.
 
Some of my friends and relatives are not Catholic, and are touchy about Christmas (they never seem to be touchy about receiving gifts, though. Go figure, but I digress.)

I made a photo Christmas card for these folks. When we still had two dogs, I posed them in front of the Christmas tree. It is a really adorable picture, and the dogs look totally enthralled by the tree.

I didn’t put a sentiment on the front, just the picture. This is the sentiment I put on the inside:

“MY turn to knock it down this year!”

All the recipients commented on how cute it was.

I’ve gotten strange Christmas cards, usually from some of the same people I sent the dog card to. I just take it in stride, figuring it’s nice to be remembered, even in a rather goofy manner.
 
I guess I am very old school-i love a traditional card that celebrates the birth of jesus, or at least with a Christmas theme.
 
I’ve been getting several like that the last few years. Summer vacation photos seem to be quite popular. One of them last year didn’t even mention Christmas. It was just a picture of the kids in a tropical setting with the text “The Ignatowskis, 2011” superimposed over them. We’re still not sure it actually was their Christmas card but assumed that it was since we didn’t get another one from them later in the season.
 
We always do photos of family, sometimes it would be from a wedding, graduation, summer…whichever is best. But it always has a Christmas template and says “Merry Christmas.” I don’t think most people exclude the holiday on purpose, sometimes it is the only time the family is all together, especially if they have college-aged kids.
 
Well, I send photo cards of my kids. I choose a photo that I think is cute. Sometimes the photo was taken on vacation, one year it was from my child’s First Communion day, etc. I always choose a sentiment that says Merry Christmas, though. No Happy Holidays or Seasons Greetings for us.
I have always hoped that our photo makes people smile. I enjoy getting photo cards, especially from friends who live far away its fun to look at and remark on how cute, how big, how much they have changed, etc.
I also enjoy people’s family newsletters, too. I like to hear what they have been up to. Sometimes they are hilariously “braggy” though…but still, I try not to be a grinch!
 
I’ve used pictures taken at other times of the year.

It’s just so hard to get a good pic of all the kids around the tree. I’ll inevitably get bunny ears on one, or funny face on another,

They are thinking you want to see their child/children. If you don’t, take them off of your mailing list, they will get the idea sooner or later. 🤷
 
Unfortunately, Christmas card exchanges have devolved into children’s photo exchanges. I wouldn’t even mind if it were photos of families being sent, but it seems to be mostly pictures of babies and small children, many of whom I’ve never met and all of whom look the same. I get that people are proud of their kids but it seems more of an occasion to show off than a Christmas greeting nowadays.
 
We like doing family photos for our Christmas Cards… but we also are very BLUNT about them being Christmas Cards… typically writing something along the lines of “May Christ’s peace be with you this Christmas and throughout the New Year”…

One of my personal favorites from a friend was a random picture of bikes mounted to the top of their car. Nothing says “Happy Day of our Lord and Savior’s Birth like…” :ehh:
 
We stopped sending out Christmas cards a few years ago. I sometimes regret it, but usually not because I found the cards we were getting were just as described here. Basically just a photo of the family/kids with their last name printed on it. No personalization at all. Even the envelopes were pre-done. So it seemed like just a checklist exercise by someone trying to “do it all” at Christmas.

It is especially odd when the card comes from a neighbor or friend that you see regularly. :confused: I just can’t see how sending out an annual photo with nothing else can really be considered keeping in touch or wishing someone the best at Christmas.

I like traditional Christmas cards the best, but I don’t mind the photo ones if they are of people I see only rarely. I especially like to see the ones of kids – it’s amazing how fast they grow up!!

What I don’t like, though, are typed Christmas ‘brag’ letters. How do you guys feel about them?

…and me, too! We make it a point to send out beautiful cards with the Holy Family on them…not just Mary & Jesus.

Others can have their photo cards with matching apparel, I’ll take JMJ any day.
