Icon for wedding shower gift?

Hi,

I am going to a wedding shower for a bride who will be married in the Russian Orthodox Church. As a shower gift, I would like to give an Icon. Would this be considered appropriate or inappropriate? If it is appropriate, what kind of Icon would be right for a young couple starting out life together? Also, where could such an item be purchased? I live in the Lake County, IL area. Thank you all for your responses.

I think this is a very cute gift idea! I personally love icons. I would stick with something small since some people have particular tastes, you wouldn’t want the bride to feel obligated to display a large peice of art in her home.

If you want to give an icon for a Russian Orthodox wedding I have the perfect one for you. Sts Samonas, Gurias and Habibus are known for interceding for married couples. They were martyred together and are always shown together in iconography. They are popular in Russia.

Thank you MercyMia and josephdaniel29 for the information. It’s just what I was hoping for.
I read the life of the saint for Sts. Samonas, Gurias and Habibus. I think an icon of them would be perfect!
