I want to make a defense for Ireland, true the Church is crumbling here, Atheism is taking hold and we are in the grips of a bad recession but⊠Ireland still has a great many faithful, you can still go on a pilgrimage in bare feet if you want to the top of Saint Patricks mountain and fear nothing. You can spend a weekend on retreat in Lough Derg and be among many brothers and sisters. Visit the basilica in Knock. Visit many many ancient Christian and pre-Christian sites. Almost every fifth field has a protected historic and predominately Christian site. Many beautiful places to be alone to pray knowing that one saint or other in the past probably prayed there. Never thirst as we have some of the finest rainfall in the world.
On the economic front, things are not all gloom, yes there is a lot of immigration but there are well over a thousand unfilled software jobs, the medical industry is doing well and finally there is a small boom in agriculture.
Iâm still pretty certain that most Irish people are as welcoming and warm as we are known to be and are still grateful of the homes we were allowed to make in many other countries over the years.
So I vote for Ireland, come what may good or bad. I think one of our best features is being an Island.
SĂ© do bheatha, a Mhuire,
atĂĄ lĂĄn de ghrĂĄsta,
TĂĄ an Tiarna leat.
Is beannaithe thĂș idir mnĂĄ,
Agus is beannaithe toradh do bhroinne, Ăosa.
A Naomh-Mhuire, a MhĂĄthair DĂ©,
guigh orainn na peacaigh,
anois, agus ar uair ĂĄr mbĂĄis.
Amen.
God Bless to all.
