Identify name of song?

I visited the St. Peter’s Basilica on May 23, 2009 and I can’t stop thinking about one of the songs that I heard; it was so beautiful and I was moved. It seemed to repeat a lot and people started clapping during what sounded like the chorus. Would you be able to identify the song for me? It did sound lovely. In Spanish or maybe Italian? Too much background noise to catch the words. I’d like to know the title too.
