Idolatry and Rosaries?! HELP!

Yes , hi everyone, i have a question. I am a rosary maniac, i own several and i keep buying chaplets, because im never satsified with one, now i have a few good devotions which is the good side, the bad side is the fact that i now have several rosaries and i feel like im commiting idolatry, becaus ei care more about how the beads look, and how they look in my hands, and on the pew etc. more than i do about the prayers (something i fear!):eek:
My favorite devotion is the Sacred Heart, whihc was a chaplet i bought, that one i feel was legitmate, but now im scared that im commiting idolatry by caring too much about the beads. in this case what would classify as idolatry?, and do i need confession because of this ASAP,? is what im doing a mortal sin? SOMEONE HELP PLEASE!! ALL ANSWERS ARE APPRECIATED AND VALUED!:eek: 😊 :confused:
 
If you care about the appearance of the beads rather than what they represent, then yes, i’m sorry, but i think you are being idolatrous. One rosary will suffice. I have an old simple wooden one, but it gets the job done. Remember that the bible says to try not to lay up too many treasures of this earth, because eventually they will pass away.

I didnt know about this, i had a feeling, have i commited a mortal sin though up until now by this?
 
It is not a mortal sin, and you can be forgiven. Just back off. Talk to your confessor about it.

In an objective sense, mortal sin requires 3 key components. 1. Grave (serious) matter 2.Full knowledge the action is wrong and 3. willful and uncoerced comission in light of the understanding that it is wrong.

Idolatry is certainly grave matter in an objective sense. Everything outside of that, including but not limited to how serious the matter is in light of your specific circumstance, is ultimately only known to God and yourself. At the very least, it would be worth mentioning in your next confession.

Of course you can be forgiven. There is no sin that can not be forgiven except that for which we refuse to repent.
 
Idolatry is the sin of treating something other than God as divine (see here). Being really, really into your car, your clothes, your garden, your muscles, or your rosary beads may or may not be sinful (as sins of vanity, pride, etc.), but they are definitely not actual idolatry.

One must be careful with words such as “idol” and “scandal” not to pretend as though the common English usage – “Oh, he really idolizes that band,” “It would cause a scandal in her knitting club,” etc. – had any real relation to the theological doctrines concerning idolatry, scandal, and so on.

i certainly dont treat the beads as divine, i just, hm, i dont know, like the way they feel, look, i dont worship the beads, (not bowing down to them or thinking they have magical powers) so what would this criteria, be, cause all i ever wanted is the “perfect rosary” one i can be happy with for life, so how about this? Mortal sin? if it is, please tell me, cause then i am going to rush my butt to the nearest confessional or Priest!

Why would you think it might be a mortal sin? One of the requirement for a sin to be mortal is that the subject matter be “grave matter,” and wanting a nice rosary, well, it just ain’t grave matter. Frankly, I highly doubt that even something like wanting a rosary that’s nicer than your neighbor’s would be grave matter.
 
In light of your last post, I would have to agree with Mark on this one. I would have a hard time believing that REALLY liking rosaries is grave matter. Putting them equal to, or above God, would be a different story.

There may be elements of other venial sins in there somewhere, although I make no claim at being an expert on anything related to spiritual advisement, or the types and nature of sin, so I am open to being completely wrong.

It certainly doesn’t sound as if anything here warrants a mandatory trip to the confessional.

If it is bothering you, I would still recommend bringing it up to your confessor or spiritual advisor, but I don’t see anything “mortal” about the situation as you have presented it.
