Idolatry, and the Ten Commandments Question.

Greetings,

I was pleased to use the reasoning of Patrick Madrid recently to refute a Protestant claim that Catholics are guilty of idolotry, as it appears in the 2nd Commandment in the KJV. This is a widespread claim by people that were raised Catholic, but have left the Church. Then I was caught off-guard by the reply that the Catholic Ten Commandments do not accurately reflect the book of Exodus 20:1-17.
The discepancy that Patrick Madrid claims is not reflected, even in the reading of the passages from the Catholic Bible, from the same verses. That verse 3 and verse 4 both begin with “Thou Shalt” must indicate they are individual commandments. Verse 17 is all one sentence rather then being broken up as Patrick Madrid shows with his reasoning (Answer Me This!, Statues, Icons, And The Sin Of Idolotry) It was also argued by a school teacher that this whole verse was about “Lust,” whether about someone’s wife or their property.

By this reasoniing it does appear that Patrick Madrid’s argument is pretty weak. Can you please clarify this? I need your help!
