If a Priest leaves the priesthood for a woman, are they both denied communion? Are there any sanctions?

Al was never laicized, he is excommunicated and his faculties (right) to act in a priestly capacity) have been removed. There is no way his faculties would ever be restored. He has done too much damage by his scandal. He could be readmitted to the Church by the annulment/confession process but he’ll be in the pews not on the altar.

It all depends on getting an annulment and just because you want one doesn’t mean you’re getting one.

This thread keeps reminding me of Zambian Archbishop Milingo who married in a Moonie ceremony then returned to the church.

He could easily get an annulment. he’s a catholic married outside the Church without disdensation, to a divorecd woman.

Possible but not probable. There have been cases of priests who left and got married without being properly laicized who later repented and were accepted back into ministry. Its rare but it has happened.

There is no need for a “full annulment” in such cases since the marriage is invalid without proper laicization (canon 1087).

However in the case of Fr.Cutie, there would be grave concern over his ability to effectively minister given the public nature of his case.
