If all grace comes through Mary, (if she is the Mediatrix of all graces by virtue of her coronation as Queen of heaven and earth) does that mean that she has all the love it is possible to have in a finite human heart? IOW, does she have the same amount of love as Jesus “in quantity” (for lack of a better phrase) even if not “in quality” (because she isn’t united to God as Jesus is in the hypostatic union)?
Food for thought.
In speaking of the grace of Christ (ST, Part III, Q.7, art. 10), St Thomas Aquinas says that Christ, who is both God and man as well as the head of humanity, possesses grace in the fullest possible measure. It is from Christ, our head, that all receive grace even our Blessed Lady for she was redeemed in her Immaculate Conception in view of the merits of Christ. St Thomas says that Mary is full of grace not according to the fullness of the essence and power of grace itself which it is proper for Christ to have, but according to the state and dignity to which God called Mary, i.e., to be the mother of Christ.
Now, in speaking of the power of God (ST, Pt. I, q.25, art.6), St Thomas says there are three things God could not have done better:
The humanity of Christ, from the fact that it is united to the Godhead; and created happiness from the fact that it is the fruition of God; and the Blessed Virgin from the fact that she is the mother of God; have all a certain infinite dignity from the infinite good, which is God. And on this account there cannot be anything better than these; just as there cannot be anything better than God.
St Thomas also says that the Blessed Virgin possessed enough grace to save every soul (commentary on the Hail Mary). “The Blessed Virgin is full of grace even to the point of being able to distribute it to all men. For it is a great thing in the saints when they have enough grace as would be sufficient for the salvation of many but greatest of all is to possess enough grace as to be sufficient for the salvation of all, and such a plenitude is in Christ and the Blessed Virgin.”
I think St Maximilian Kolbe says, I would need to look for it in some of the books I have on his writings, that God could not have made Mary any greater than she is.
