If Anglican church unites under Pope and CofE becomes Catholic,does it make the ruling Monarch Catholic too?

**Since Queen Elizabeth II. is the supreme governer of the established Church of England and defender of faith (Anglican),what would gonna be happen when Anglican church reunites with Rome? Does it make her a Catholic queen?

And what does she think about this whole reunification process? Is she positive on converting to Catholicism and being under Roman pontiff’s jurisdiction ?

If Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary) the last devout Catholic queen was still alive,she would be pleased i think;)…Ah…And yes…The Northern Ireland issue…and possible impacts on it…**

Have you been led to believe that reunion of the Church of England with Rome is imminent?

The Pope’s recent initiative is unlikely to be accepted by more than a small minority of Anglicans.

Still, it’s an interesting theoretical question. . . . I think the laws on the books forbidding the monarch to be RC would have to be changed in that highly unlikely case (unlikely for decades at least, anyway).

I think the laws are likely to be changed long before any such reunification happens, and the result is much more likely to be a monarch who is not Christian at all than a monarch who is Catholic.

They could only unite if the queen agrees, so she would want to be a catholic.
And they would talk about that issue,
so it is likely that it will be changed.
 
A point of clarification… It is not the entire Anglican Community that has requested communion with Rome… It is just a small handful, compared to the entire community.

The Queen is a part of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s group of Anglicans

The group that has requested communion with Rome have split from the Archbishop of Canterbury.

I suspect the religion of Charles, the heir to the throne and potential King Charles III is much more in question. 😉

Well, he is Orthodox. This is what I can’t get…

Catholics can not marry into the Royal Family, but…even though the member of the Royal family will be the monarch and head of the CofE, how will their spouse (the Catholic) be the head of the CofE? Because that is one of the reasons why a Catholic cannot marry into the Royal family.

Also, she never came to my part of Canada! :eek: How rude!

If Charles is Orthodox then it would seem he cannot be King.

Which would be OK with me. 😉

Think I read someplace that he wants to change the title “Defender of the Faith” to “Defender of the Faiths” be more inclusive.

I heard that too. I also heard that he probably would not be Charles III but would probably George VII.

But he is not Orthodox. I would suspect that if he does have an Orthodox leaning to his personal faith because of his father, a convert from Greek Orthodoxy.

Anglicans do not generally use the word “conversion” to describe what happens when a Christian of another tradition becomes Anglican–particularly if that other tradition has historic episcopal succession (though that latter remark would not be true of low-church Anglicans).

I see your point. However the Orthodox, I believe, would see it as a conversion.

In any case, his father became Anglican in order to marry her Maj, but as was pointed out before, although Prince Charles may have Orthodox leanings, a conversion (or change of church) would likely render him ineligible for the throne.

Would be interesting though.
