Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today we begin Chapter 12 in St. Louis de Montfort’s book on “The Love of Eternal Wisdom”.

In this Chapter, our Saint lists 62 quotes from Scripture. Today I’ve copied the first 6 quotes, but I am not surprised by the verse he listed first, because it is how St. Louis himself began to practice what he learned and what he began to help others to learn. Listneing and pondering today’s 6 quotes, which are important utterances from Jesus as recorded in Scripture, may we learn as Our Lady and all the saints have learned to follow Jesus and to become “perfect” in love.

CHAPTER TWELVE

THE PRINCIPAL UTTERANCES OF WISDOM INCARNATE WHICH WE MUST BELIEVE AND PRACTISE IF WE ARE TO BE SAVED

1. 1. If anyone wishes to follow me, let him deny himself, take up his cross and follow me. Lk. 9:23.
2. If anyone loves me, he will keep my commandments, and my Father will love him and we will come to him. Jn. 14:23.
3. If you present your gift at the altar and you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift before the altar and go make peace with your brother. Mt. 23:24. 134.
4. If someone comes to me and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brothers and sisters and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Lk. 14:26.
5. Whoever has left his house, or brothers or sisters, or children, or inheritance, out of love for me, will receive a hundredfold reward and will possess eternal life. Mt. 19:29.
6. If you wish to be perfect, go sell what you possess and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven. Mt. 19:21.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your Faithful. Kindle in us, the Fire of Your Love. Jesus we trust in You! Mary Mother and Model of the Church, pray for us! St. Joseph, Protector of Mary and Jesus, and Guardian of His Holy Church, pray for us, Louis de Montfort and all you holy Saints and Angels, pray for us.

Thanks so much for your “heart” which appreciates the fervent love of St. Louis de Montfort, as he wrote to share the Great Love he learned from Jesus, the Eternal Wisdom.

One of the reasons, I continually go back to his books is because St. Louis de Montfort, steeped himself in God’s Word. It is amazing to me and tragic to see so many who are eager for the latest fads, and anything that entertains them or gives them instant pleasure.

What will people have at the end of their physical lives on this earth, if they have not sought to know, love, and serve God? Do people not believe there is a God Who has loved them so much He died so they could live happily forever with Him? I wonder…

Our Lady had more suffering than all the rest of us humans combined, says St. Alphonsus in “The Glories of Mary”. Yet she had peace and joy beyond all the rest of us too, because of her love for Jesus and the Cross.

Here is St. Alphonsus, a Doctor of the Church:

"The sight, then, of Jesus and Mary wandering as fugitives through the world teaches us that we also must live as pilgrims here below, detached from the goods which the world offers us, and which we must soon leave to enter eternity: “We have not here a lasting city, but seek one that is to come.” To which Saint Augustine adds: “Thou art a guest; thou givest a look, and passest on.” It also teaches us to embrace crosses, for without them we cannot live in this world. Blessed Veronica da Binasco, an Augustinian nun, was carried in spirit to accompany Mary with the Infant Jesus on their journey into Egypt; and after it the Divine Mother said, “Daughter, thou hast seen with how much difficulty we have reached this country; now learn that no one receives graces without suffering." Whoever wishes to feel less the sufferings of this life must go in company with Jesus and Mary: “Take the Child and His Mother.” All sufferings become light, and even sweet and desirable, to him who by his love bears this Son and this Mother in his heart. Let us, then, love them; let us console Mary by welcoming in our hearts her Son, whom men even now continue to persecute by their sins.”

Dear patricius,

Yes, how truly the saints learned: we need to appreciate the sufferings Our Lord permits in our lives. Truly they are a way for us to unite ourselves with Him and graow more like Him in Love. Mary our Mother knew this and loved Him more than any other human person. How willing she was to say her “Yes” to Him at every moment.
