If baptism removes original sin, why would sin be passed to our children?

Original sin is present in every human (except Mary) at birth. Baptism removes this sin. So it seems that sin is hereditary but grace is not. Is that because God wants each of us to choose him rather than being born with his grace?
 
One of the consequences of original sin is that we have no power, in and of ourselves, to transmit grace to succeeding generations, except through the sacraments (and the sacraments are Christ’s action at work through us).
