If I believe gay marriage is right, am I not a good Catholic?

Good afternoon. I teach 7th grade religion at a Catholic parochial school. This was the essence of a question and discussion we had in my classroom. I have thought of many responses and issues related to this question and am currently working on a refined answer to the broader what question: What is a good Catholic? or What does it mean to call yourself Catholic? or What does it mean to be Catholic? I am thinking as a starting point, someone who strives and has ordered their life so as believe, profess, and defend all that the Church teaches on morals and faith regardless of their own opinion or understanding of said morals and faith. Thank you for your thoughts.
