I grew up in a Catholic family, im 22 years old these past few years i havent been religious i havent visit church for almost 2-3 years now i used to go to the mass everyweekend i even prayed the rosary many times… but im in a situation right now that im kinda questioning my faith… i have a friend he’s from Church of Christ he wants me to visit their service, im having a thought of attending their service… so i’ve been searching about his religion wanting to know more about it before going there, if ever i choose to convert to Church of Christ and afterwards didnt feel like its the right thing to do and still think that Catholic teaching is still in me will there be a problem Converting back to Catholic? Let say after few months of converting to Church of Christ i decided to return as a Catholic will it be ok?

Your thread title implies a misunderstanding. Catholics are Christians. You would not be ‘converting to Christianity’. You would be leaving one Christian denomination to join another.

If you did that and then changed your mind, then of course you can come back.
But why are you considering leaving?
If you believe in God and that Christ is God, what is it about Church of Christ teaching that seems more true than Catholic teaching?

Just popping in to add that Catholicism is Christianity. It’s actually the original.

You haven’t even attended the CoC church yet, and you’ve marched right past converting to CoC, but are already converting back?

In any event, you would certainly be welcome back. The Church of Christ folks are pretty hard shelled fundamentalists, BTW.

Once one is baptized in the Catholic Church, they’ll always remain in the Catholic Church unless they’re explicitly excommunicated. So you’ll always remain a Catholic regardless if you’re a practicing Catholic or not.

That said, if you decide to stop being a practicing Catholic, and decide instead to be active in another Christian church but later decided to return to being a practicing Catholic that attends Mass every weekend (like all Catholics should), then you would most likely need to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) before you may again receive Holy Communion at Mass.

But I would highly recommend that you remain with the Catholic Church, the church that was founded by our Lord and Savior, Jesus. It’s not perfect since it’s a church full of us sinners, but it truly is the church founded by Jesus on Pentecost and it’s the church that Jesus promised that he will forever protect.

Let us know what you currently find objectionable about the Catholic Church that’s making you think about joining another Christian church.

I should say the reason for you to ‘convert’ is a very bad one. Like in marriage, one does not enter into it with a thought that if one does not feel like it later, one can always get a divorce. Marriage is a once in a life time decision.

And so is belief and religion. I am saying this so that you can think about it and why you consider of jumping on a wagon in your friend’s religion.

Anyway, to answer your question (as in the thread), converting, which is actually practicing the Christian denomination of your friend, in reality that means you would not be fulfilling your obligations as required by the Catholic Church, which are sins, according to the specific of the sins.

You can come back anytime to the Church but for you to receive Holy Communion, you have to go for a good Confession first. That’s all it takes.

My sincere advice to you, please don’t, especially since you do not want to leave the Church actually.

God bless.

There’s this Church of Christ lady on youtube (Lizzieanswers or something) who is actually converting to Catholicism. Might wanna check her out.

It sounds like you don’t know much about the Church of Christ except that it is your friend’s church community. Perhaps you don’t know a lot about the Catholic Church, either, even though you’ve been a Catholic all your life. There might be an advantage to getting to know your own church community first.

Is there something you don’t understand or don’t like about the Catholic Church?

The fact that you’re asking if it’s ‘easy to revert’ sort of says that you already know the Catholic Church is the place for you. Praying for you.

A Catholic by baptism or coming into full communion, always remains Catholic, and subject to the canon laws of the Catholic Church. For example when a Catholic attempts marriage without the approval of the Catholic Church, it is not a marriage.

As a former Church of Christ member myself, DON’T. Go for a visit, sure - but don’t convert. It can be a nice pleasant community, but they are severely misguided. Some of them are skilled at emotional manipulation and word play to gain members; they double-down if they think they’re losing one. Learn your faith before you convert to another.
