I have been searching the forums and I have not found any discussion along these lines.

If I go see war of the worlds, does that help promote scientology? :hmmm:

Considering Tom Cruise’s enthusiasm :whacky: for scientology and the fact that he will probably make lots of $$$ from this movie, am I indirectly supporting scientology if I go to this movie? I know it would be a microscopic drop in a vast ocean but it would still contribute to the overall take. On the other hand, he is basically a paid employee of the producer/movie company. I would want to avoid companies that support abortion but what if they employ a person that supports abortion?

I have always been a big fan of the classic sci-fi movies 🤓 and I was very interested when I heard WOTW was being re-made. With all the press about Tom and Katie and scientology it has given me pause. What do you guys think?

I dont think it’s all that bad. Even i want to go see it. of course, im a teen and ill se any action/aventure movie as long as there’s no porn in it… lol. and i dont do horror movies. something like LotR, pirates of the carribean, x-men kind of stuff. unless they company or Cruise is using this money towards the advocation of scientology, it is harmless. it is just entertainment, unless of course hollywood is again trying to ruin our minds even more subconciously… i personaly would go see it. a hard core christian might not, but hey. its something to do on a friday night when your bored!

I have made a personal decision to boycott all movies that star known scientologists. I realize that this is  probably not going to make any difference, but after the Terri Schiavo tragedy was found to have connections to scientology, I did some research online, & decided that I would not be supporting Tom Cruise, John Travolta, etc.
But, I emphasize that this is a personal decision…I don’t pretend to have any absolute answers here.

I don’t see any Hollywood release. For a long time I haven’t been able to see a story being told or even people acting. All I see is the Culture of Death.

Hollywood pours tens of millions a year supporting that which I detest: Scientology. Abortion. PFAW. The ACLU. Euthanasia. Radical homosexual activism. AUSCS.

It trashes business, religion, the military and family.

Hollywood spits in the face of middle America and then laughs when those it depises hand over freight car loads of money.

Given that Mr. Cruise is the 10th Wealthiest Celebrity, I would say that yes, you are indirectly supporting Scientology if you pay to see his movie. Especially given all of the hoopla of late that he has carefully engineered in order to promote Scientology hand in hand with his movie.

(Btw, here’s the list: )

  1. *]Oprah Winfrey
    *]Tiger Woods
    *]Mel Gibson
    *]George Lucas
    *]Shaquille O’Neal
    *]Steven Spielberg
    *]Johnny Depp
    *]Madonna
    *]Elton John
    *]Tom Cruise

A films a film, and in this case its fictional,so yes it will be ok,im going to see it:thumbsup:

It’s a movie for goodness sake! Go…enjoy. Otherwise you’ll have to sit home and make a list of things you are going to boycott because you “might” be supporting something that goes against your beliefs.

I personally will go see it. If you want, rationalize it like this: You’re supporting Stephen Speilberg, who, as far as I know, is a pretty decent guy.

It was filmed in my town . . . the bayonne bridge is 4 blocks from my house! I drive over the bridge to get to work every day, so Ive been totally looking forward to this movie!

That’s awesome! Did you go watch during any of the production?

I don’t think so. Probably most items you buy have some tie-in to immoral/unCatholic positions. Many companies donate to planned parenthood, GM owned (or still owns) DirectTV which sells porn channels. Disney gives benefits to same-sex partners.

The list could go on and on.

Hi guys!

Isn’t there a deeper question here? Don’t we run into a similar question when we contemplate, as an employer, hiring a scientologist? Do I support non-denominational Christianity, and therefore heresy, by going to see Billy Graham?

My litmus test is whether the movie explicitly promotes what I know to be evil. Since, as far as I know, War of the Worlds, has nothing to do with Scientology, I don’t think it matters and I don’t think I’d be supporting Scientology any more than I would if I hired Tom Cruise to mow my lawn.

I thought Mel Gibbson was Catholic!!!?! How can he be catholic and still promote scientology? can you show me where is says that, from a reliable resource?

I think that was just of list of the top ten richest people.

Not going to see WotW because it may fund Scientology? No

DON’T GO SEE IT BECAUSE WE ALL ALREADY KNOWS HOW IT ENDS AND IT’S NOT ORIGINAL OR PROBABLY EVEN GOOD FOR THAT MATTER IN ANY SENSE OF THE WORDS!!! 😃 😛

…but, that’s just my opinion, there…

Hi adstrinity!

Well, I can at least confirm that the movie is not good.

Well you could say that about everything. Hey am I supporting Taoism when I go to Tai Chi, hey am I supporting Buddhism if I eat chinese food?
No offence but it sounds a bit dumb.
By the way, war of the worlds is a really good film!

I agree that Hollywierd needs a message sent to them that ‘real American’ IS fed up with their snubbing of the audience that would give even MORE money than they are right now.
However, once you get into the media, you can say anything no matter how subtle, and get away with it.

If Hollywierd can put out a product that is NOT biased, then I may consider seeing a money worth spending $$$.
