Is it considered officially sacramental? Or does it have to be blessed first, etc.?

All sacramentals should be blessed, but no, it isn’t any different if you make it yourself. Considering they are not usually blessed when you buy them, it doesn’t matter who makes them.

It is also blessed by the act of your praying with it, according to a priest who resides at a nearby shrine and daily blesses articles sold in their gift shop.

It may be blessed in some way by a person praying with it, but the official blessing of the Church can only be given by a cleric.

The Church wants you to have your rosary blessed by a priest, so do it! It doesn’t matter who makes it of course. If you make your own rosary out of love, that sounds very nice.

The Deacon at our parish and his wife welcomes new parishoners. He blesses homes, sacaramentals, and etc.

My late Uncle made several rosaries before he passed. They were all blessed by a Priest.

Thanks guys. I’ll do just that, find a priest willing to bless them.
