If I want to die, I should have the right to be killed by the State!

and I think that’s the Church’s position as well.

Unfortunately some pagan pencil pusher in DC decides they know how much morphine a person should be allowed to have?

She hasn’t won anything of the sort.

She’s won the right to have a clear statement from the Director of Public Prosecutions about the circumstances in which her husband might be prosecuted for helping her go to a clinic in Switzerland - see this article in the Daily Telegraph.

Of more interest, from a UK perspective, might be this article in last Saturday’s edition of the Times:

Overwhelming public support for a change in the law to allow medically assisted suicide is revealed in a poll for The Times.

Almost three quarters (74 per cent) of people want doctors to be allowed to help terminally ill patients to end their lives. Support is particularly strong among those aged 55 to 64.

Six out of ten people also want friends and relatives to be able to help their dying loved ones to commit suicide without fear of prosecution.
These people do not want to burden their children, but they will leave them with an unbearable guilt if they allow them to assist in their suicide!

Everyday life is difficult, there is no easy way out.

What I don’t understand about his whole “right to die” movement is why it’s even necessary. People have been killing themselves probably since the beginning of time (just as long as we’ve been killing each other, I’m sure. If someone wants to die, why can’t he just do it himself? Not that I’m advocating it; I believe suicide is self-murder, but why drag the doctor and the rest of society into it? You don’t need a prescription for a lethal dose of barbituates to kill yourself, there’s plenty of other ways. If you’re too chicken to do it on your own, then suck it up and wait for God to take you in His time.

**What bothers me about this is the fact that it’s being shoved down our throats, which makes me think it’s not the people who want to die who are really behind it, but those that WANT others to die once they become inconvenient. ** They know how morally repugnant that is, though, so few are willing to come out and say it (except Peter Singer. As evil as that man is, you’ve got to admit he’s consistent and honest). Instead they try to paint this picture of the poor suffering terminally ill people just begging to be put out of their misery, and our horrible puritanical society that won’t help them. It’s all a big smoke screen, IMO.

In Christ,

Ellen
These are my sentiments exactly, in particular the part about killing yourself.

I live in the UK where all this is happening, and I keep wondering to myself “why not just do the killing yourself- why drag others into it and have them live with the guilt?”.

This is purely political, and has nothing to do with empathising with those in pain.

None of which changes the fact that all she’s gained is the right to get a statement about the circumstances in which her husband would be charged.

What ‘all this’ is happening?

jesus wont need this in order mankind will spiritually feed on him till he kiils himself legally or not. im well aware of spiritual feeding if i could ban it in existence i probabbly would.

you realize ive had much shame in my life getting to be daily know. in scripture it is said i will hear scripture 20 times in a day of shame. all you here want to do is drain my bload feed on my flesh convert me to do your deeds being unawareful puppet in my own mind, every day is worse then the next. every person i talk to wants power to misuse it. every person wants to feed on my admiration and love till its gone as its gone know.

know every person wishes not to like what they have created so killing me and calling me a mistake in the name of progress is best since i can no longer produce or care to.

My emphasis

Maybe ‘others’ are 'into it, whether they chose to be or not!!

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that ALL LIFE is precious.

ALL life created by Father God for the individual to enjoy.

Surely if there are any among us who are so sad they are contemplating ending their life, we have a moral OBLIGATION as THEIR brothers and sisters to love them and do whatever we CAN to support them, re-assure them, even enter into THEIR WORLD OF PAIN in order to share, understand and help.

I believe a suicide is an indictment on the degree of care [or lack of it] in the WHOLE community in which it occurs. Therefore, 'others ARE dragged into it, whether they are living the Gospel or indifferent to the plight of others!

Blessings and peace

Euthanasia is never okay. One person doesn’t just get to kill another, and we as humans don’t get to decide when we die. If a person is terminally ill, we should help them and try to make them as comfortable as possible, not kill them. Even if the person asks to be killed, its not okay to comply with that request. You just can’t kill another person.

  1. Euthanasia presents legal problems. If a doctor has the permission to inject chemicals into a patient’s arm because the patient asked them to, can a wife stop feeding her husband if he is bedridden and has asked her to? Where should the law draw the line?
  2. The United States was build both on Jewish and Christian doctrines. Neither religion encourages death. As a society we should encourage life not death. Lets not emulate the behavior of societies that have died out.
