Anne,

The only way to answer this question is to ask the priest that has rendered one opinion over the other otherwise this is all conjecture.
True, it’s just confusing when you ask and get different reasons from each. Then you just have to go to God and ask for help.

It’s real. I don’t want to share specifics here. But it has led to doubts about the sacrament. Often I can ignore them, but reading that thread about mortal sin brought them up again im just going to try to ignore them and try not to question or figure it out any more. I know it is best to have one confessor which I learned through this whole experience.I wish I had never posted here.
Anne,

So if one priest says this and another priest says that, coming to a forum with incomplete information without specifics yields incomplete information without specifics. The only way to satisfy this is to ask the priest involved for clarity…because while God knows our hearts, unless you ask a specific question of the priest involved then all you have is incomplete information, that is commented on without understanding, that serves to not clarify…if you want clarity go ask the priests involved and get back to us…Priests are open to discussion…try this simple task…

I really was not asking for a solution. It’s over and done and i talked to both priests already. There is no resolution. I was just expressing my feelings and thoughts about “if only God knows our hearts” and the connection to confession. Somehow that ended up being about this specific situation as the thread evolved. Some people chose to make it sound like I was purposely questioning sacraments or posing ridiculous scenarios. That was never the case. Nor was I looking for a solution to the scenario that happened in confession. I’m going to stop this thread and see if I can get it closed.

Appeal to tradition
Everytime you say I believe Scripture you are appealing to tradition.
]I assume you believe the priest in standing in place of Christ to forgive. If that is the case, I go straight to Christ. 🙂
You didn’t address the quoted scripture which disputes your going straight to Christ.

Don’t be upset, Anne 🙂 Nobody wanted to accuse you of anything…we just want to understand as much as you do, and to try to contribute a bit to clarify your doubt! I hope you received some helpful replies. I always think that every time such a significant issue arises, we should ask a priest for a few minutes of spiritual direction. It sure helped me often. 👍
