If the priest lies during absolution, is the penitent's confession valid?

A very low-probability thing, I understand…

If a person confessed to a malevolent priest who externally absolved the person, but interiorly didn’t out of malice…would the person’s confession still be validly absolved?

:The priest is acting in the person of Christ, and the absolution is given through him. While he has the ability to withhold absolution, in your question he did not, and the penitent is not required to play a guessing game of “Did Father really mean it?”.

The Penitent is absolved.

A priest can’t “lie” during absolution. If he says that the penitent is absolved, then they are (assuming that the proper formula was followed)

Yeah the priest can’t absolve you but have his fingers twisted behind his back and go “gotcha!” That’s not how it works. Christ forgives us through the Priest
