Is it a sin if you don’t. I was rude to a friend, and rather calling or emailing later to apologize, I thought it would less awkward to just get on with things and make a reparation to God alone. Is it a sin to not apologize?

Thanks for your help.

Whether it is a sin or not,

its where you morally stand and if at all possible please it be good if you did apologise somehow to them because you are Catholic. If you don’t then they will feel that that there aint much to those who are Catholic to those who aren’t of any faith. We have a friend and he don’t go to church at all because he sees what we all do and say etc and finds no reason to go to church because we are no different toward each other to those who don’t go to church. Yes it important to be sorry because you are sorry but important to be outwardly sorry to repair the damage and as you are Catholic, to keep the Catholicness their good image otherwise whom you hurt be chuntering about Catholics to their other friends. So if nothing else, do it for the protection of your faith inline with Catholic Church to protect their identity.🙂

I would think any thing that diminishes another’s dignity by my actions or comments is a sin. If I am rude and intentionally so…and know I am rude to a person and do not seek to repair the damage my rudeness and unkind speech and manner inflicted upon them and their dignity as a person who also bears the “Light Within”…then yes…I have sinned. Sins of commission as well as omission are still…sins…are they not?🤷

I am not certain what Catholicism says about this, but according to Jewish teaching, reparation must be made directly to the person we have wronged. IOW, it is not enough to pray to G-d for forgiveness although prayer does not hurt.

To hear a sorry from a Christian when you are not a believer yourself, or not the kind of believer who does apologize, is not only humbling for the person saying sorry. I overheard a woman apologize to another woman about a conflict they had. After hearing it, I wondered, “Would I ever have the guts to do something like that?” I think it also might humble the person you are apologizing to, because they may wonder what it is about you that would be apologetic and sincere. Don’t think so much about if it’s sinful or not sinful not to. I think it would be better to look at the impact those two little words could have on your self, the person you say those words to, or anyone who might overhear or be told about it later.

I agree and usually in confession you would be told to do so, apologize to the person you were rude to. It helps heal the relationship.

apologizing is much easier than you think and it does bring healing to the relationship. going directly to the person is part of the reparation.

I think you should apologize if you realize that you were rude. I’m assuming the person doesn’t seem to still be upset about it, so I would just go with, “I’m sorry I was rude the other day.” No awkwardness there.

The context is missing here. What did you say or do? Why did you say or do it? If you think you did wrong (you might have done right, for all we know), I think instead of asking whether or not it’s a sin to withold your apology from your friend, you should think about whether you want your error to hurt your friendship – if he’s worth it to you.
