If you could only have one spiritual book other than the Bible, what would it be?

My is “Onward Catholic Soldier” by John LaBriola, it’s a spiritual warfare book for Catholics according to Scripture, the Church and the Saints.
 
I have a few , sorry 😊 In order of favour 🙂

1.True Devotion to Mary (Has helped me to overcome my Protestant influenced confusion about my Mother Mary) ❤️
2.Story of a Soul (Has to be number 2 for me as she is my Patron Saint and has helped me so much.)
3.The Diary of Saint Faustina (This book changed my life because it helped me to feel love from God more)
4.The Imitation of Christ (This book is a classic because it is a great wealth of knowledge)

That is a hard choice ( glad we don’t really have to make it !). LOTH and Divine Intimacy by Father Gabriel of Saint Mary Magdalen, O.C.D are on the top of my list.

Ahhh yes Divine Intimacy is a gem.

Yes I am glad we don’t have to make that choice.
 
I’ve read so many, and have so many authors whose words inspire me, and have helped me in my faith journey. It would be impossible for me to choose just one. Some of the top candidates would be:

Orthodoxy (Chesterton)
Mere Christianity (Lewis)
City of God (Augustine)
Imitation of Christ (Kempis)
Introduction to Christianity (Ratzinger)
The Great Divorce (Lewis)
The Summa Theologica (Aquinas)
The Lamb’s Supper (Hahn)
Life of Christ (Sheen)

It goes on and on to include virtually the entire collected works of G.K. Chesterton and C.S. Lewis, and Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI).

But if only one other book, besides my bible, I’d have to say the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We’re in some pretty desperate times is I’ve only got two books left. These two would contain everything I need to occupy my mind for the rest of my life. Or…The Summa, because with the bible and the summa, you could recreate the Catechism.

If you’re talking about just my own personal favorite other book, from the gut, it would likely be Fulton Sheen’s “Life of Christ”, or Pope Benedict’s “Jesus of Nazareth”. (But it’s a series).
 
Wow - lots of Catechisms. I guess I meant more for just spiritual reading - a sort of desert island pick, not a desperate grab one thing and run out of a burning house sort of idea. In other words, a spiritual work that speaks to you profoundly and would be the only one you’d want besides the Bible if you could have no other. I think the LOTH and the CCC kind of go without saying in desperation - I mean something that would be a work to meditate on and read and re-read.
Loved “Introduction to the Devout Life” by St. Francis de Sales. He is one of the best writers out there. A very pious work indeed.
“Story of a Soul” was very difficult for me to get through - it did not speak to me at all. However, I have a collected thoughts and quotes book of hers which is very helpful. I find that I need her writing pared down in order for it to be digestible. That said, she is a wonderful saint, and one that seems to look out for me all the time.

Greetings Theidler,

The CCC can be used for meditation and lectio divina. It has been most helpful for me. I still have as yet to get through the riches and gems of this book. And if I ever get through this book, I plan on going through it again doing lectio divna on it.

My choice would be quite an easy read, not many pages, but very profound. “Searching for and Maintaining Peace” by Fr Jacques Phillipe. I found this through an “audiosancto” homily by Fr Isaac Mary Relyea.
