If You Could Only Say One Prayer

If I have only a short time or if I can’t concentrate then “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.”

Or else Rosary or Divine Mercy Chaplet, which could be done anywhere anytime.
 
Seconding the Our Father, best prayer I’ve ever prayed and always the “fallback” when I can’t think of what to pray. Surely it is strictly better than any other prayer, since that’s what Jesus himself said to pray when his disciples asked him.

(Sorry I just came from the mtg forums where we constantly agrue which decks and cards are better than others, so I’m in that mindset. But seriously, how could any prayer be better than the Our Father? The CCC even has dozens of pages dedicated to it).

Is that two questions, or one 🙂 ? If it is two, then St. Philip Neri is my favourite Saint, bar none.​

“My Lord and my God”. I say it on my way up to receive Holy Communion.

Or “Holy, Holy, Holy”, in preparation (hopefully) for eternity with Him.

I can’t “say” the Mass but that would be the one prayer I would want to make a part of my daily life if I could only chose one. If it has to be a prayer that I can say, it would have to be the Rosary. Within that prayer, I get all my favorites 😃 . Is that cheating? :confused:
 
Chaplet of Divine Mercy, the whole works, because it includes Our Father, Hail Mary, Creed, then the whole Eternal Father, etc. Starting and ending with the sign of the Cross, you got your bases pretty much covered. I wish I’d have heard of it sooner.
 
If you’re talking about short prayers, you’re looking at it.

“I love you, Lord. Thank-you for insert whatever good things I think of at the moment.”

That’s where I’m currently at, right now. I pray about a lot of other things too, but that’s the prayer I speak most commonly and would have the hardest time doing without.

If we’re talking about my being in this condition of only one prayer per day for a long period of my life, though, I’d have to go with the Lord’s Prayer. My little prayer is included in the “Hallowed be thy Name,” line, anyway.

I, too, love the Divine Praises - but was moved that you added the prayer listed above. I learned it years ago, but don’t often hear it unless in a group novena - not much anymore - so I say it myself. Good to hear people keeping that alive.
Praise be the Name of Jesus.
 
If I could only say one prayer, it would have to be the Our Father. It was taught to us by Jesus, and per theologians, is the erfect prayer. It teaches us what to pray for and it what order. it even opens with praise of the Father which is the way all prayer should start. Praise, Thanksgiving Petition, in that order.

I think the key part is:

probably the Jesus prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on me a sinner. It’s quick, to the point, and very meaningful.

“Lord my life belongs to You take it do with me what You wish, be glorified by Your will being done” thank You Lord.
 
Depends on the day.

If I desperately needed to go to confession, a Hail Mary. I most probably need the Blessed Mother’s help.

And if I don’t, still the Hail Mary for some inexplicable reason. There may be some here that might object that I call on Our Lady first before Our Lord and yes, I sometimes feel that way on some days. And yet at the same time, I seem to be assured in some mysterious manner that He really doesn’t mind at all.

I have no arguments for it. She just…grows on you.
