If you don't support gay marriage, do you support civil unions?

Ah so you do concede people to make democractic judgements based on their beliefs!
Thank God. I thought for a moment you were Stalin
You didn’t understand the point I was trying to make in my post, and I cannot be bothered to make it clearer so I will only respond to this.

I have made it clear that people should vote for what they want in my post, so I think the suggestion that I am Stalin, who murdered more people in his own country than Hitler did in the Holocaust, very offensive. Particularly as Stalin wouldn’t have said “you can vote for what you want” as I did, but would have (and did) told people what they wanted.

Next time you start accusing people of being “evil” historical figures, do your research please. Thank you.

Oh yes I did I understand. Your point was that we shouldnt force our beliefs on others, and I responded that that exactly is what democracy is all about. If you cant be bothered to argue this further then fair enough. My idea just trying to get you to think about what you are actually saying by following it through to its logical conclusion. (no patronising intended).

It was only a joke. come on. wheres you sense of humour?

I get what you mean, and democracy is not so much forcing beliefs on others as trying to please the majority. Forcing beliefs on others is more a term I would use to describe what’s going on in countries which have a dictatorship or a one-party state.

Not sure. I think I lost my sense of humour when the socialist monarchists centre-right party took over my country and I was moved to the communes. I wouldn’t have noticed if it wasn’t for the surprising information I learn about Britain while on this forum.

Are they just a horse by a different name? What would be their public purpose?

“forcing beliefs” are strong words, which is probably why they are being used deliberatley in this context. My experience of politics is that sadly it does boil down to imposing one will over the other, no matter how people try to sugar coat the effects. Theres an interesting debate on teh effects of removing laws in order to increase personal freedom. (removing the prohibition on gay marriages would be on instance). Another debate/another forum perhaps
