Assume that your main goal is to use that money to better the world (however you define that). If you had these resources how would you go about it (achieving the above-stated goal)? How would that change if you were very old and had little time left or if you were a teen wanting to prepare to possibly receive this sum and do your best with it? Would you just donate it? To whom? Do something more elaborate? How much would you save for yourself? I’m curious to see your replies.😊

I would buy a large tract of land…as much as I could buy for about a million, then put 400k into building tiny houses (approx 20-30ish) with the hopes of having around 50-100 in the future and about 400k into building a main center for gatherings with a small industrial kitchen.

The rest would go to salaries for the first few years.

It would be a retreat center with co-mingled houses for transient/poor single people. There would be a small animal farm portion (chickens, etc) and some veggie farming. Retreatants could come enjoy the land–props if I could get acreage near a national or state park so I could also rent to tourists. Longer term stays (over a week) would be encouraged. Eventually, maybe add some family-frendly cabins.

I would donate it all to a women’s and children’s center to help the helpless… All of it…

I would build my parish a beautiful Cathedral-type church. It’s currently in an old Baptist Church waiting for a better life.

IF i inherited or won the lottery for 2 million dollars, first I would move out to the country, buy a big home with alot of ground…Hopefully there would be many trees that would be a home for many spices of birds, lots of squirrels any of God’s creatures are welcome.I would start a trust fund for my children, for their education and for whatever else they would need. They are the most important ones in my life. along with the other immediate members of my family. I would also help the poor and needy by building a shelter for Mother Teresa’s sisters to care for, them. This would be nice for us if this were to happen. but who knows, anything is possible. I wish all of you the love of God. Take care::🦋🦋

I’d find a bank that has fantastic interest rates! I’d still work my job. I would move outside the city and surround my property with 12ft tall iron fence. I’d renovate the house obviously. Then, I’d offer to pay for some work around my parish. They’d have to be specific though. I’m not throwing money into some general fund!

Fair enough. There’s apparently something of that sort in Germany (sort of but they have a rent of 1 euro per year or something) but the idea sounds nice. Though what if said poor people have mental/physical/addiction problems and could not live together? What if they have kids who need to go to school and your plot of land is just to far away? Also if you do become economically significant in the area that could have negative effects on locals (at least to my understanding). Overal the idea sounds real good 🙂 I’m just thinking about the most efficent way somebody would maximize the benefit the sum can bring. There was this Standford 5 dollar experiment that has something interesting along those lines (sort of) and I’m also thinking about the parable of the master that went away and gave his servants different amounts of his treasure. So yeah overal give yourself a pat on the back for an interesting idea is what I mean to say.

Well, again, this is what I’d do with the money because I see the need.

The first focus would be for young, single people quazi-stable who need an affordable place to live. Many young people today are needing to extricate themselves from abusive/manipulative/controlling homes but rent is so high they cannot. We have a good number of them on this board.

They are often forgotten and overlooked by charities because they ‘earn too much’ or don’t have kids or, heck, don’t have a debilting mental illness or drug addictions.

The hope would be to, eventually, have room for people with more severe illnesses and the staff to deal with them, for families, etc. Most of the best addiction counselors and advocates are well supported recovering addicts themselves. But that would be a 10+ million plan, if not even more.

I could also run one of the programs I’ve wanted to for ages, which is a “Holiday Camp” which is a “boot camp” so to speak for hostile, non-violent separated couples and their children. It would involve the parents agreeing to a list of individual and group therapies, parenting classes and legal plans all while giving the kids time to enjoy being a kid free from the stress of bouncing between mom and dad in a “summer camp” environment.

Eventually, I’d have a nursing home with a daycare center and school. And an assisted living center that is staffed in part by 16-21yo foster kids who’ve shown themselves to be responsible.

sigh That’d take about 50 million if not more.

I think that there are billions of ways that one could “maximize” the value of a dollar. I mean, really, in the US or Europe 2 million isn’t going to go that far. It could build the infrastructure for an entire city, educate all the children and feed thousands in Central America, South America or Africa. One might argue then, that 2 million on women and children in the US would be not getting the most bang for your buck.

Invest 1/3-1/2.
Pay off my meager bills.
Donate large portions to…my religious order, my local Catholic radio station, my parish, my mental health services non-profit, and help my friends with their mortgages.
