Using this spray paint (Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Flat Black Spray Paint 12 oz - Ace Hardware) which works on plastic, I spray painted my black glossy plastic rosary to make it matte black. I tried to follow the instructions but I think my mistake lies in that I didn’t wait for the first coat to dry after doing the second. It’s supposed to dry in 24 hours and it’s 4 days now and somewhat sticky. Any advice?

Also, I was kind of excited and in a rush and I sprayed the paracord parts between the decades (I avoided the crucifix of course) and those parts are very sticky.

Not sure why that happened. You might try leaving it outside to dry. I honestly don’t think spray or any paint is the way to go. If you use the beads, you will wear the paint off.

Might be better to just get a rosary you actually like, or learn how to make them using the beads you like.

First of all, if you don’t exactly follow the directions when spraying, the paint will end up tacky and will take much longer to dry.
Second, I’ve read some online comments that Rustoleum’s current formula ends up tacky for a lot of people.

I would suggest that you put the rosary in a warm, dry place (like if you have a hot sunny windowsill in a well ventilated room) and leave it for a few more days in hopes it will dry. Some websites say Rustoleum can be put in the oven, but I think that’s a fire hazard especially given the materials of your rosary.

And, as someone said, it’s likely if you pray the rosary frequently, this paint will wear off anyway, so it’s easier for you to just buy a rosary in the colors you want in the first place.

It’s hard to apply just the right amount of spray paint, especially when you’re dealing with little pieces like chains and beads.

Sorry for the late response. I am probably going to remove the paint if it is just going to peel off later. Thanks for the help. Prayers for you

Did you use an oil-based paint or an acrylic paint? Oil based paints take a long time to dry completely. Acrylics dry much faster, provided they aren’t applied too thickly.

Why would you spray paint a Rosary?
