About the long-term stuff like where we’re going to live, we have been discussing it. He and I both have relatives who married people from other countries and who dealt with the problems of immigration and visas. He hates Korea, so we aren’t living here. He wouldn’t mind living in Canada, where I’m from, but is concerned about the cold, plus my family is from a small town, so he and his daughters would be the only Asians in town if we moved there.
Where in Canada? I have a very good friend who lives in a small town on Victoria Isl., BC and she’s married to a Filipino! Not so hard for her DH, he’s a great guy! Cold you can get used to.
👍

Although I do love Australia… 😃

We’re also talking about moving to Australia, because from there tickets to see his family would be cheaper.
If you are planning to get married it is better to be more realistic. How easy or difficult is to immigrate to Australia? I think Canada as your native country would be an excellent choice to start your married life. I believe immigration to Canada would be fairly easy for him and his children if you sponsor him. The immigration takes time so you would have to plan many things ahead.

Thanks, everyone, for your replies.
Well, he has decided not to leave Korea yet. Not so much because of me, although I’m sure I’m part of it, but because if he had trouble supporting his daughters in the Philippines with a successful business, then how on earth could he support them with a failing business? He is breaking up the business and selling the parts.

Austraila has my vote. Like this should matter when making your decision. haha:D

You both sound like a very sweet couple–I can see you both being happy wherever you choose. (within reason) lol

Dulcissima & Chevalier, thanks so much for your support and understanding. Please pray for me and my ex, that if it is right the Lord will turn our hearts back to one another and that we’d be able to give eachother what we need.

Just Wondering, praying for you, follow the Lord, but don’t be afraid to follow your heart too - that’s why God gave you one in the first place! Sorry for hijacking your thread.

No problem, DL82. There’s plenty of advice available for everybody! 👍

Yeah, we’ve been figuring out visas already and we’re not even engaged yet. In Australia, both our jobs fall under “skilled employment” for the purposes of immigration, so it’s possible for either of us to get in with a job offer and then sponsor the other and the children. In Canada, I can sponsor him if I can demonstrate that I can support him and the children if things go bad - but I haven’t worked in Canada in my field, ever. But there are jobs for English as a Second Language teachers everywhere in the world, I bet, so I shouldn’t have trouble finding something.

Really? That’s where my parents live - the Northern end of the island, in a town of 300 people. I know there is a Filipino grocery about 90 minutes drive from their town, so maybe your friend lives close to there! Small world!

Thank you! 😃 I think he’s pretty sweet too. And he’s meeting a member of my family for the first time this week - my brother is visiting me in Korea. :extrahappy: Yay! Yay for seeing my brother and yay for introducing him to my boyfriend.

I will. Perhaps look at the future with some optimism? There’s a new year starting and you never know what it will bring. 😉

DL82–please write her a letter. I thought this earlier and now that Just Wondering doesn’t mind the hi-jack I want to tell you my ideas about it. Even a complete “stinker” (sorry just the term of endearment I came up with when you said you were a cad in order to sabotage) can get a 180-degree turn-around from a lady he antagonized out of a relationship with a passionate, no-holds-barred passionate letter. Trust me, I know!

Oh and by all means – apologize.

Any man who can say they are sorry after that is worth marrying in my book!

I would agree with this. Give it at least one really good try. If I remember what you said about her earlier (when you were still togehter), I am sure she would want you to.

I did write a letter, and I did apologise a lot. She also wrote me a letter, and they passed eachother in the mail. Her letter was a very nice way of saying that she knew she’d made the right decision to break things off, and though I tried to re-start a conversation after that, it was met by a refusal to have contact. I guess things are still too painful. We were only months away from marriage when she called things off so it’s understandable.

I will try again after Easter, as I am still feeling overwhelmed by personal sin, and need to wait until Easter Vigil to have my first confession and be received. I figure I should at least wait until then before contacting again, give time for scars to heal.

I think you are going to have an amazing Lent then…and an even more amazing Easter. So, just wondering…being new to the faith, have you started praying the rosary yet? I know it takes some getting used to.

I’ve already begun living a more penitential life, and think I will continue that way long after Lent. I just want to go to confession now! I’ve been praying the rosary, even before when I was an Anglican, though I feel more at home praying the liturgy of the hours or the Divine Mercy chaplet. I think I need to wait until I stop being scared of the Blessed Sacrament before I can even think about being ready to contact my ex again or date anyone else. At the moment, I’m just so aware of how condemned I am, it makes me want to fall on my face or run from the room or both when in the presence of the consecrated Host.

Can you talk to your priest about receiving the sacrament of reconcilliation sooner? It is possible.
