If you were asked by someone: “Why should I come back to the Catholic faith?”, how would you respond?

I guess it depends on the person’s background…but here are some bullet-point reasons:
  • You can receive the fullness of the Truth
  • You can receive Christ in the Real Presence
  • It is where God calls all His children
  • Participate in the mass (which is a sampling of the heavenly banquet)

I would ask “why not?” to see where the problem lies. Then I would help find the answers as I have not really been “back” that long and probably do not know how to answer correctly/properly.
This would help me learn also.

I would probably remind them of the beauty of the Mass, Eucharist, Sacraments, Sacramentals, how the Church began-history, and hopefully they will see my enthusiasm and become interested.

I would ask why they left.

There is no one answer to a question like that.
Yeah, I wasn’t implying that there is one specific answer.

Let me add a little:

The person is a fallen away Catholic. He/she left the church not because of any grievance; more or less he/she just drifted away.

To clarify, I haven’t encountered this…I’m just wondering how each of you would respond.

I have actually had this discussion with some of my friends who are fallen away Catholics.

What I have told them is that Chist loves them and wants them to come home to the Church He established. Then I ask what it is that is keeping them from coming back and do my best to respond to those objections or concerns in a loving way

Perhaps there is a better approach as neither of the friends I am thinking of have come back into the Church yet, but I continue to pray for them, especially to St. Monica.

Top 10 reasons to return to the Catholic Church, as reported by those who have come home (from OSV pamphlet in our rack)
They want meaning in life
childhood memories surface
they made mistakes
they need to forgive others
they want to be healed
the Catholic Church has the fullness of truth and grace
they want their children to have a firm faith foundation
they want to be part of a faith community
they want to help other people
they hunger for the Eucharist.

In the case of someone who has just “drifted away,” and has NOT become Protestant, you need to evangelize like a Protestant (but keep your theology sound.) You need to put Jesus first. Get them to love Jesus, and THEN a love for the Church will follow, when you present the proper apologetics. The person of Jesus Christ needs to come first though, and NOT as in the Eucharist, but as in a vibrant living relationship that dwells in the heart, inside and outside the four walls of the church.

Because God loves you and is waiting for you to come back. Ask them to come to Mass or to Rosary with you. That may be all the ‘push’ they need.

Good luck and God bless.
