How would you build a Catholic town?

How would it be different than most cities, town, and suburbs?

:hmmm:

Today, neighborhoods are mnostly made of strangers who have little to do each other.

I would like to see neighborhood with large community centers that would provide many of the common activities of the family, including large kitchens with common meals (include fresh soup & salad bars), large clothing washing centers, gym with pool, library, large television viewing rooms, common meeting rooms, chapel, day care, education rooms, etc.

Private living quarters would be smaller with a small kitchen (as shared meals are encouraged) sitting areas, and bedrooms.

People would be asked to spend so much time serving the neighborhood by performing common tasks, such as lawn care, communal cooking, dishwashing, clothing cleaning, etc.

Hopefully neighbors will know their neighbors and be supportive of each other.

The town would in its charter including a declaration declaring that human personhood is recognized starting at conception and granting full rights of human minorhood (children) starting at conception.

There would be no commercial advertisements pushing consumerism. I cringe when I think of the how commercialism & consumerism is shoved down our throats everywhere!

every corner would have a small sign giving the direction to the Catholic Church, and listing confession as 24/7:thumbsup:

There would be a movie theater that would only show Catholic and other family friendly films (with big families getting reduced admission so the whole family could attend).
Beautiful processions thoughout the streets with liturgically appropriate themes.

If feasible, many greenhouses with transparent ceilings and contain bike trails with access directly to communal buildings and residences.

Can I vote for no Catholic town? How will we evengelize? (or you mean once the whole world is Catholic, how would we want our towns to look?) —KCT

build a town in the shape of a donut… non-C’s in the middle…can"t get in or out without rubbing sholders with a Catholic 😃

I guess that would work for Catholic town too… really can’t get in or out without rubbing sholders…

so we will always have an opportunity to evangelize…

…what about having prolife physicians to take care of us…especially for women. I am tired of seeing MDs who push either taking the pill or having a hysterectomy to prevent pregnancy esp. if one has a serious health condition.

I want doctors who respect life as well as the lives of their patients.

If there are signs, they would have to be a certain kind. Small, yes, and certainly handmade and wooden. Nothing large or synthetic. And definitely no billboards! Our Lord must be absolutley disgusted with the way in which we cover up the beauty of nature he has given us. And all for a profit!

Hopefully, there would be no need for signs listing confession, as the citizens would already know when. It would be part of the social fabric, like it was in ages past. No signs needed.

I’m sorry, but that is not a very “Catholic” description of a movie theater. I for one am not interested in family-friendly films, and the rest of the Christian art world would agree with me. Give me horror and filth, not for its own sake, but for a balanced view of our humanity. Under your model, there would be no “The Exorcism of Emily Rose,” M. Night Shyamalan or Hitchcock films, or even “The Passion of the Christ.”

If one is to judge the true nature of how Christian or “Catholic” one’s environment is, just check it’s art status. If it’s all Precious Moments, then it’s a distorted view of the Christian life.

I’m not sure what I would do, but I find it interesting that the founder of Domino’s Pizza is trying to do just that. Check it out:

under Catholic News, and also under Secular News, there are some recent threads on this town and its founder. The various links are more interesting than you might imagine…

or search ave maria town here on CA

Okay, I did it. What exactly did you mean by the links being “more interesting” than I might think? Sorry, I’m probably missing something. :o Can you send me a specific link?

I would have prayer grottos with many statues and benches as well as individual saint statues located all over the place.

Large public crucifices would be common.

Absolutely, birth control drugs and devices would be illegal.

All medical practioners, doctors, nurses, pharmicists, etc., would be required to be 100% pro-life.

Preference for and special use of electric vehicles with gasoline vehicles limited to special streets.

BIG, traditional Catholic Church in the middle 👍 with a square infront 🙂

BIG park with play areas, lake, walks, GROTTOES 😃

Lots of STATUES, CRUCIFIXES etc around town

I’d actually prefer something old school - only bikes and horsedrawn carriages in town and have a bypass not too far away where you can drive normally if you want to leave town.

First would be clean affordable large family friendly housing. Jobs for the breadwinner close to home and with family friendly wages.

Large campus for Catholic Church Buildings and Catholic schools within walking distance. High educational standards where they will teach true moral Catholic beliefs with no appology for not being politicaly correct. Welcome others as long as they understand that OUR Faith is what will be taught. Education that is truly low cost or free for the familes.

No places of business to be open on Sunday. Hospital, police and pharmacy (in the hospital) the only exception.

Oh, another nice thing would be drive through bread and milk stores. Then we would not have to drag the babies out of our vans to just get milk. Better yet back to the small stores that deliver what we need.

Family friendly bowling, skating, library and parks. As Catholics we are to use God’s earth respectfully and share with others. Thus conservation and good “works” should always be practiced.

Boy my list could go on and on.
