I just received the entire set of the Ignatius Bible Study-Commentary’s.

What is the best book to start on? One of the Gospels? or perhaps Acts? etc…

I am a bible novice (a little knowledge ) and was wondering for any of you who have used this series , where you think I should begin in this series.

Thanks!

Although I do not have the series you are speaking of, I would start any Bible study for a novice in the gospel of John. It is just packed full of great stuff!

I mean just look at the first line that expresses the 2nd person of the Trinity.

:bible1: John 1:1 In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God.

All that in one little verse.

God Bless,
Maria

The Gospel of John is indeed the most beautiful and deep, but it also may be difficult for a beginner to study in depth right off the bat. I would recommend started with the “two parter” – The Gospel of Luke and it’s “sequel” the Acts of the Apostles. I think you’ll appreciate John more if you first get the big picture through these two works.

The Ignatius Study Bibles are great, and you should get a lot of good info from them. For more helps on getting started in reading the Scriptures, I’d humbly recommend checking out my website, Catholic Scripture Study at members.cox.net/fidelis927/

first, just read Mark’s gospel in one sitting, like a novella. Then for serious study, begin with Luke and then Acts, which is part 2 of Luke.
