We are not judging you, but give me a break. This in no way says you are allowed to steal intellectual property. Please, expound on this? How soed this teaching invalidate intellectual property rights?

My understanding was that copyright expired 70 years after the death of the author (and that it used to be less than that). After that, it goes into public domain regardless of the demand.
Here is a link that explains when something becomes public domain. I believe it is accurate.

Say you are wanting to download an old movie that is believed to be in public domain. Make sure it is not one that was released by a company, say like Kino or Criterion, because then you are violating their rights (unless they grant permission).

i was using the quote to show that i changed my mind

It’s public domain unless/until the copyright’s renewed. There are about a half-dozen public domain versions of the silent film classic “Metropolis” (since you mention Kino and Criterion), but the only versions currently covered by copyright are the restored ones, IIRC.
