Up for very heated debate in Illinios is the public funding of abortions. Within the past week, an amendment to the health care bill was passed, with strong support from the Democrats. That amendment INCLUDED funding of abortions. Over the past few days many of those who voted FOR the amendment have now learned that the bill contains the use of public funds to pay for abortions and now the Pro-Life Democrats have begun to crawl out of the woodwork and are working to undo what they did.
It appears to be working!
Last night, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich embroiled in a budget battle fight, issued the following statement:
“Illinois Covered increases funding for community health centers, which are critical primary health care providers in underserved areas. Family planning is among the many services provided at community health centers, but the definition of family planning does not include abortion, nor are community health centers permitted to perform abortions.”
