Hi. I wonder about these magic shows, illusionists. I am watching tv programme where an illusionist does some tricks like mind reading or levitation on the street among random people. Is it something really serious? I know that tricks like rabbit in the hat, tricks with cards are explainable but levitating? Or is it just scripted show to entertain people? He asked a lady to think about a person and he guessed it. Im not interested in it at all but I am curious if these tricks are just evil things or illusion?

Levitation also uses illusions. Magicians/Illusionists are using natural means to achieve the appearance of the supernatural, which is actually more impressive. So in that regards, there’s nothing wrong.
As for guessing what the woman was thinking, there are definitely psychological tricks too. Psychics (who I don’t endorse as they actually claim/try to use the supernatural) will often use Barnum Statements, things that are vague and apply to almost everyone to get the person seeing them to divulge information that helps them make more educated guesses. (I once saw a non-fiction show where a guy used those tricks and got people thinking he was psychic, which shows how effective these can be.)

So in short, magicians are skilled at deception and there’s no worries in being impressed by their tricks.

Illusions.

Do you have Netflix? There is a program called “Brain Games” all about how the mind works and how easy it can be to fool it.
