I'm embarrassed to confess same sin over and over

I had a similar situation a few years back. I told the priest I was embarassed to be confessing the same thing over and over. He was a monk at our closest monastery and seemed a very steady man. His response to me was that sin as we come to know it is very boring. The same thing over and over and that it is just our fight to continue to return to the sacraments.

He really put me in my place, over dramatizing my sin just because it was a sexual one. I left the confessional feeling completely human and ordinary yet with the graces of absolution.

I have only read the first page, and much good advice was given. Believe me, you are not unique among humans. These thoughts become mortal sins, if you purposefully entertain them and keep them going.which could lead to other things. If you do not, they are temptations, which of themselves are not a sin. Using distractions is one of the best ways of overcoming these. In particular, pray regularly. Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. It is short and is most powerful. Do not ever be afraid of going to confession. That is exactly what Satan, the father of lies, wants of you. Do not listen to him. When the apostles asked Jesus how often they should forgive, Jesus told then Seven times Seventy. This response involves Jewish numerology. Seven is the perfect number. When multiplied by a factor of 10 it signifies an infinite number. Thats how many times God forgives those who are sorry. Do not ever forget this. Trust in Jesus and pray. You will be in my prayers.

I’ve wondered about that myself. Just look at the forums! All we seem to ever talk about here are sins that are somehow related to sexuality.

What about anger? Greed? Putting other priorities ahead of God?

To be honest-more of my sins relate to those other things than the sexual ones.

For my part, anger is a daily if not hourly offense. So it is a sin that I have to keep confessing over, and over, and over again. It is sooooooooooooooooo hard for me. But I need to confess it, so that I keep myself on the path, so that I remind myself that it is wrong. It would be so easy for me to justify my anger, but confession reminds me that it is wrong, and that if I do it, I have to confess it. Sometimes that helps me, just the fact that I have to tell someone else, helps me to not sin. And then when I come out, I feel like I am all clean, and I can start all over again. You know how when you are on a diet and you eat one cookie, well you tell yourself, I already messed it up, so I might as well enjoy it. and you go and eat five more. Well, confession keeps you from eating any more. you may have messed up, but since you have to confess it, you will try your hardest not to do it again, and you won’t revel in it. Hope this helps.
