I'm embarrassed to confess this sin

If you really want to, you can always find a different priest to confess to. But to my mind, at least, it’s actually easier to confess those sorts of sins to a priest you know.

I actually had to confess a similar sin a few years ago. Except I purposefully went to the priest I knew well. Because for me, it was easier psychologically, because it was a one-time event, and I trusted that priest to know better that I’m not normally like that.

You have no idea, of the good feeling you will have, after confession. Even though you´ve confessed before, Each time there is a greater blessing. The harder to go to confession, the greater the feeling afterward. Most important you need to show God, that you are repentant for what you did. God bless: Thumbsup:: Thumbsup:: Thumbsup:

These are hard sins to confess at first because you aren’t supposed to talk about this stuff to others, but this is the only way to receive forgiveness from God and get to heaven. Remember that for that brief moment in confession it is not the priest you are speaking to but Jesus himself. Jesus is ready to forgive you right there. You just have to say a few words. Don’t worry what the priest thinks. Priests hear this sin so often, they usually won’t remember who said what.

If don’t want to confess to your parish priest, you can go to one of the penance services. You can confess to a priest who you will never see again, or at least only see twice a year if you go to penance during Advent and Lent. Also, sometimes a priest will visit from another parish for a mission or other event and will hear confessions during the few days he is there.

If I were in your situation, I would probably choose to confess at my own parish, and when I admitted my sins, I would say that “I did X and Y before I ever knew that they were seriously wrong. I had been led to believe that they were normal, and once I learned of their sinfulness, I stopped, but I felt convicted so I wanted to bring it to confession.” It aids the priest to know context of he is going to offer any counsel, and it helps you to get through your embarrassment by admitting that you were unaware of the seriousness of the acts until recently.
I hope that helps. Good luck!

You could go to another parish but I would be careful about falling into the habit of “priest shopping”. I did this for a little but, I found it not to be helpful. When I decided to face up to my own parish priest it would bring me strength and motivation not to commit the sin again because I didn’t want to have to confess the same sin over and over.

I don’t know exactly where to put this question since I’m still very new but i need an answer, I’m a 16 year old girl, who has all her life been Catholic, but it wasn’t until recent that my family got really involved into the church, and in all honesty i like it, it is fun and you bond with new people, but of course i also don’t like, however i digress this is not the problem.

Recently my family has gotten to know the preist at our church on a personal level and they can recognize me and my siblings, and already its a bit embarrassing to be around them since they know my sins. However there is one i have never confessed because i was to scared embarrassed and ashamed, i have watched pornography and i have masturabted, it was of course when i thought it was normal, the teen magazines said it was but still i kept doing it, I’ve stopped but i want to confess, but i don’t want to confess, it would be to embarrassng to tell anyone and i don’t know what to do
Confess it. Don’t worry. This is the one sin they hear most about in the confessional. You’re young and this is a normal thing. You’re curious and teens have strong carnal urges. That doesn’t mean it’s OK to act upon them, but don’t beat yourself up either. Confess it, resolve to avoid it, and make your best effort to do so. Ask God for help. Alone, we’re powerless but with God all things are possible.

As all others have stated it’s probably the most heard sin that priests hear, and of course if you feel better go to another parish, so you can confess with anonymity. Also you don’t have to be direct, what I do if i ever fall back on this sin is to mention that “I have watched porn and done other stuff associated with it”.

So I hope you get through this rough patch, and God bless.

I didn’t grow up Catholic and I’m in RCIA now to enter the church at the Easter Vigil. Today was my first confession and since I was baptized 48 years ago, in the Baptist Church, there was a lot to confess.

I had to confess what you have struggled with and so very much more. My priest is a prince and I wish I could have recorded every word he had to say. Not only was he understanding and kind, he had a lot of good advice. For every sin I committed, he had advice of gold.

My pastor is a short, skinny little man of Irish descent but spiritually, he is an absolute giant. I already admired him from him presiding over the mass and interactions with him at church and that is why I signed up for him to take my first confession. It was a great choice because he’s even better one on one than he is with a full congregation.

Do what I do. Hop in the car, drive across town, and confess to a Priest you’ve never met before and will never meet again.

Another trick which might be better if you’re not driving yet (and will therefore be less suspicious to your parents). Vacation! Next time you go on vacation, your parents will surely want to attend SUnday mass with you. Insist on going a bit early to go to confession. You can’t possibly be nervous around a priest from another city!

You can say your sin was of “self gratification”. Sometimes, using a euphemism might make it a little easier to confess.

Hey, don’t worry. Never be afraid to make a Confession.
The Priest is only a Veil, behind whom Jesus Himself sits. And Jesus knows all your sins already. When you go for Confession, it means that you are showing Jesus that you feel very bad for your sins, and Jesus is obviously just waiting to forgive you.
Don’t feel ashamed. If you’re feeling too nervous, just ask your Guardian Angels to help you. Ask them to help you to remember your sins so that you can make a good confession. And ask them to help you not to be afraid.

Relax, and keep Praying. Never forget that God loves you.

Love and Prayers, from one teen to another,
Nikita =)

Any priest in the Catholic Church can give absolution. When I had this situation, I went to another parish to confess my sins, because like you I was afraid of confessing it to the parish priest I knew and saw every week.
