I'm gay/homosexual/SSA, I'm Catholic, what do I do now?

24Another parable he put before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. 27And the servants of the householder came and said to him, Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?' 28He said to them, An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, Then do you want us to go and gather them?' 29**But he said, No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’**”
That’s a portion of today’s Gospel Matthew 13:24-43. Among other things, I take it as a good reminder that I, as a mere human being, am not able to pick out who is wheat and who is weed.

Maybe this is a topic for another thread. But what, if anything, can straight Catholics do to constructively help gay Catholics, from the gay perspective? Besides being friendly, non-homophobic, etc.
FWIW one thing I try to do, being friendly and non-homophobic, is to be careful about laying blame on sexual orientation. For example, if I wasn’t being careful I might speak of “statistics of people committing suicide because of their sexual orientation”, but I try not to say that because in many (most?) cases it has to do with the way other people *react *to the person’s sexual orientation.

One of the issues I have noticed on other CAF topics is how people can often wind up discussing “gays” as if they are all some monolithic anti-Christian bloc, and lose sight of the humanity of each individual who identify as such.
Very true! It’s given rise to such jokes among my friends and others about “catching teh (sic) gay” and “the gays”. It’s sad but I have to say typical of our culture. Of course, was it ever different?

I think seeing everyone as a multidimensional person is a good starting point. When you focus too much on one aspect, like a person being SSA, you could be missing other things including what spiritual gifts they have.
