How much can I participate during Mass? I know that I cannot partake in Communion but can I make the sign of the cross? Should I kneel before entering the pew? Is dipping my fingers in holy water ok? I will ask at class Wednesday but would like to know others thoughts…thanks

The only thing you *can’t *do is partake of communion. The rest is fine. It’s good to get in the habit of doing so at this time. Then, once you are received, the only thing different you’ll be doing is partaking of the Eucharist. You might also want to look into doing a holy hour every week. I’m signed up for two. Although I’ve gotten out of the habit of going. I’m starting back, though. Those hours have been a blessing for me.

You can and should bless your self with holy water, also whenever you see the lit candle (which is the sanctuary light) it means Jesus is present in the tabernacle you should genuflect on your right knee. At our church the people in RCIA stay until the gospel is read and maybe the sermon and then they leave with the director of RCIA. Not all of the people in RCIA leave because some have families, and some just love to see the entire Mass. The only thing that you can not do is go to communion. But sing, if you have missals at the church follow along with the prayers, if not maybe you might want to look into the Magnificat that comes monthly with the Mass for everyday of the month or buy a Sunday Missal. Just take the time to enjoy learning the faith.
Hope this is not to much information, just suggestions that may help.

As previously stated, you can do everything except receive Communion. At our parish, and at most of the parishes in our area, you can go through the Communion line and receive a blessing. You should ask your sponsor or one of your R.C.I.A. teachers for confirmation of this, however, since the custom apparently differs from parish to parish.

At our parish, if anyone approaches the priest, deacon, or extraordinary minister with his arms crossed, he is indicating that he cannot receive Communion and would like a blessing instead. Most small children in our parish receive such blessings at Mass, but it is common to see adults with crossed arms too.

Good luck with R.C.I.A.!

:blessyou:

And by all means DO bow deeply from the waist at the Incarnatus in the Nicene Creed (“by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.”)

Dip your fingers in the Holy Water and make the Sign of the Cross - forehead, chest, left shoulder, right shoulder - while saying
In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Do this in anticipation of the Baptism you are preparing for.

If you are already baptized do it in commemoration of that Baptism.

Definately participate in the whole Mass! Even though you cannot yet receive the Eucharist, you can make a Spiritual Communion. There may be prayers for this in your Missal, or you can :
“simply think on Jesus and how much He loves us and how much we love Him, then ask our Blessed Mother to ask her Divine Son to come into our hearts. We can offer these Communions for the interest ofj the Sorrowful and Immaculate heart of Mary, noting our special intention!” (taken from the Pieta prayer book published by MLOR corporation 2001)

Like Toni said, if your parish doesn’t supply Missalettes, either get the Magnificat or a Sunday Missal. Very helpful for the Order of Mass.

Thank you all for your comments and your support. I almost can’t beleive how much God continues to bless me. The joy knowing that I will soon be in full communion with His Church is almost overwelming. Thanks again!
