i dont know if i should, i have quit in the past for years on end, i have been able to have a beer or two here and there, and when i go past that, i usually know ive done so so i pay for it with my self,

my question is, ive been telling myself im done drinking for good, i cant even remember how many times ive told friends, im done drinking, im done with drinking, im not going to drink, etc.

yet , time and again i find myself having a beer or two, non domestic, from europe for example,

im afraid that when i grow up, i may be too uptight , say for example going to a wedding or my own , not being able to,

i went to my sisters wedding as a non drinker and it was the worst time of my entire life,

so what do you think? should i continue doing a few beers? will that hurt? im pretty responsible,

There’s nothing wrong with having a drink or two. Even Jesus drank wine. He wouldn’t have turned two, huge jugs of water into wine if he had a problem with (responsible) drinking.

Getting drunk, impairing your brain to function properly and endangering your health by getting totally wasted is what enters into sinful territory. Or, if you were once an alcoholic and are trying to quit, then having a drink or two, in that case, may potentially be an occasion of sin for such a person.

Moderation, for the average person, is key. Cheers 👍

I notice you say, when I grow up, does that mean you’re drinking while underage? because that’s a whole different topic

Yes. I noticed the same thing.

Also, it sounds like you are self medicating. Talk to professional about the social anxiety you are feeling. You need to learn some ways of controlling your anxiety without chemicals.

If you need alcohol to have a good time at your sister’s wedding or not to feel uptight, then yes, YOU SHOULD GIVE DRINKING COMPLETELY. These are not good reasons to have the occasional social drink, they are signs of future dependency and big trouble in your life.

I would discuss this with your doctor or a professional counselor. Saying: “i went to my sisters wedding as a non drinker and it was the worst time of my entire life” is a revealing remark of alcohol dependence.

Pax Christi.

Exactly.

Also, if you think you should MAYBE quit drinking, YOU SHOULD QUIT.

Please pray and get help. I do both and am 2 1/2 years sober and happy!

God bless.

I would normally point out that drunks and teetotalers treat alcohol as a drug, whereas a reasonable moderate drinker treats it as a drink. However, from the tenor of your post, as other wiser replies have intimated, you seem to treat it as a drug and need it to relax and enjoy social occasions. On this basis, I would also suggest total abstinence.

My first thought is that if you have to ask the question, the answer is most probably “yes, you should give up drinking completely.” Put drinking behind you, forget about it and move on with your life.

Lots of people are teetotalers and it doesn’t rule or ruin their lives, social or otherwise. I may have six drinks a year, if that. No big deal, I’m just not a big drinker. I hate beer and most wine anyway. I don’t enjoy most social situations, either, but that’s never been improved by drinking - it’s part of my depression and social anxiety, for which I’m getting councelling.

Be at peace.

From reading this alone without the other posts, don’t go “cold turkey.” The enemy is using this distraction as a means to take your focus off of more important matters…like serving your neighbor and increasing your prayer life. Just stop worrying and proceed as is. If it is a problem, God will reveal it to you with His PEACE.

Be at peace. God wills your good.

Not necessarily…in all cases. The OP is worried which is a good sign that he desires to please God. The masses are the subject of your advice. So, IMO, the OP can partake with moderation. His fear is a verification that he is aware of how much is too much. He is tending toward scruples…

No worries.
