Funny, I just posted about this kind of thing elsewhere. Someone once said you shouldn’t be afraid of ghosts. It’s not the dead people you should fear, but the living ones. I am of the mind that “ghosts” who are the souls of the faithful departed may be remaining here to atone for deeds in their lives and this may be their purgatory. Until any competent authority comes along and makes an ex cathedra pronouncement to the contrary, that’s my theory and I’m sticking with it.
Having said that, there are other spirits out there that can mimic ghosts. My ex took my three young daughters to one of those haunted hotels. Some odd things showed up in photos they took. One of my daughters was weirded out by some things that happened, but of my three, she is also the most… how do I say it… spiritually perceptive and the one most intuitive in that regard.
Mind you, I did NOT okay this trip, and vehemently protested it. And he went anyway. But they came back singing a different tune. He was not pleased to realize as they were leaving that the young women across the hall were using a ouija board.
And that is the danger of these hotels. While they may or may not have harmless ghosts lingering about, if they have a reputation online for being haunted, they will attract many many guests who are involved in the occult, spiritualism, divination, witchcraft, etc. And those people may track in God knows what to the place.
What should you bring to such a place? The state of grace, your biggest defense against Satan, and probably some holy water. I always wear a Miraculous Medal myself. It wouldn’t hurt to say a prayer to your guardian angel and to St. Michael before lights out.
And yes, I’m fully aware there is a problem with my ex. It’s a spiritual warfare I’m waging that you wouldn’t believe.
