Often its frequent Confession and Communion that helps people overcome this type of sin. (Or any sin). I think its important for you to overcome the fear of going to Confession… Even if you feel anxious, try to go anyway. The priest has heard it all many times before. He would just be glad to absolve you. 🙂

I know this post is old but i really want to thank everyone who replied to my question. Im still struggling with this sin but i no longer suffer from the sin of despair, and my social anxiety has greatly improved though i still have bouts of it from time to time.

It was all of your answers that helped me get though this. At times when i felt disgusting and hopeless, i used to look this post up and read them all over again. I felt too afraid to reply back, but now that i feel that i am on the brink of winning this war, ive finally found the courage to.

One day i hope to be rid of this habit all together, and each day i feel like im growing closer to that goal, regardless of set backs, and thus, closer to Christ.

So thank you everyone. And God bless.
That’s great! For purity, i really recommend Our Lady, St Aloysius Gonzaga, St Charbel, St Mary Magdalene, St Margaret of Cortona… St Aloysius Gonzaga seems like a really powerful Saint for purity. God bless you 🙂

People speak about it in such black and white terms, but there are so many factors in a person’s life which can contribute for whatever reason to forming such base and undesirable habits. God knows your heart, and he knows all of the confusing junk that can lead a person into committing the act. Don’t beat yourself up. Stick with God’s boundless mercy no matter what.
I know it is difficult at times after we’ve fallen to pick ourselves up and get to confession knowing that we’re just gonna fall again. God understands and he loves you. Progress can sure be slow with this, but over time (and a lot of spiritual ups and downs) then you can look back and understand better the work that God is doing in you and his grace working in this area of your life.
