I joined a Catholic Bible study group to improve my spirituality and become closer to God.
I attended a few sessions at my church and was doing okay until last night. Some of the people were late and there were 7 of us in attendance. One young gal came in and said her boyfriend was going hunting for sport. She started talking about seeing lots of animal heads mounted on the walls of a lodge that one of her relatives owned. All of the people in the group started talking about killing animals for sport…not for food. I totally disagree to killing animals for the fun of it. As they kept talking about it in a happy manner I became really sad for all those animals that had been killed for sport. I walked out for some fresh air and started to cry feeling sorry for those animals.
Then I decided I couldn’t take it anymore and I grabbed my purse and sweather and Bible and said I was leaving. The leader asked me, “see you next week?” I just said, "No, and I didn’t turn my face to look at her. I just walked away for good.
I have decided not to return because I haven’t felt it was a spiritual group. I gave them a chance and the place is not for me.
I plan to look for another RCIA group. I had a feeling something was wrong until last night I realized that group was not for me. I felt that we should have been getting ready for our Bible class by talking about Jesus and spiritual things and not killing animals for sports.
I am a very sensitive person and maybe I should have spoken up right away but it all started so fast that before I knew it… they were all talking with gusto about the sport of killing animals.
I just had to leave. It was a choice of speaking up or just leaving. I chose to just leave forever.
I am sure I will find a nicer group of people to study the Bible with. I am going to start looking today in my neighborhood. Luci
